Good analysis Charlie. And thanks for reminding me why I enjoy SEO so much! As usual, Allan is sensible about all this. I'd guess he'd say, do some basic SEO, and then keep moving.
I'm just curious whether forums actually work in a business sense, or whether they're just fun. Allan's proven that indexed forums can generate
traffic. I'd enjoy seeing the experiment concluded in some tangible manner, but after reading your analysis above, I'm reminded I'm too lazy to do it myself.

All part of the mega promotion for my new site: pompous-blowhards.com
Happily for all, I'm actually working on something productive this month, and am thus too busy to hand out any more free public canings. And besides, nobody ever gives me one, even tho I'm as deserving as anyone else. Sniff... _________________ Free Forum And Ezine Hosting

It reminds me of an old teacher of mine: "Everyman is lazy as he dare be." Glad you're in the brave man's club, too. There must be other members out there!
Seriously, I've been thinking for a while about what to do with my sigs in this place. I do not wish to link to any of my existing sites, but I have wondered about creating something just for here. I'm struggling to balance "not another..." against "a bit too controversial" and it's a tricky business (in case you hadn't noticed).
By the way, I love the suspense marketing angle with your sig. It's working on me already.

Sorry, I meant Wally doing the caning...

You're just not asking in the right way.

Best be quick, Prof, the domain's still free...
If you're serious, I know someone who might be interested in a guest column.
Have fun,

"Blogging" - that's one word for it.
You mean like a sort of on-going diary of public conflict? It's all coming to me now. We could even offer a paid membership model for the private conflicts. Ouch. (It would have to be expensive.)
Maybe even have a Chief Headbangers Club...
Any special cases would get a little set of silver antlers on a keyring. You'd get access to even less airport lounges with one of these.
Have fun,

Amazing. Is google still in the process of finding the whole forum, or is the number growth now reflecting new content being created monthly on the forum, and Allan's own new content of course?
The interesting number to figure out now would seem to be, how many indexed pages will be added to Allan's empire each month on an ongoing basis.
It makes you wonder what searching will be like as Net content continues to explode in size. Will the "top 10 SERP" still have the same usefulness and meaning when the Net is 20 times the size it is now? Also, when will we see some easy way to identify the age of a page? The net is only 10 years old in practical terms, and already a lot of the pages are out of date junk that nobody has bothered to update or remove. _________________ Free Forum And Ezine Hosting

Wow! That's awesome, but a bit puzzling, too.
A search for site:associateprograms.com shows 78,800 pages - but the site definitely does NOT have that many pages, by a long way.
There are only about 31,000 posts on the forum. Even if Google counted every individual post as a page and counted it twice, that would give us only 62,000 pages.
I haven't counted them, but I guess the rest of the site contains under a thousand pages - newsletter archives, advice articles, affiliates dictionary and affiliate directory categories.
So I can't imagine where Google is finding all those extra pages it's reporting. I don't mind, though. It looks impressive _________________ Allan Gardyne

What may be happening is the old urls (the long dynamic ones) are being counted as well as the static html ones ... it's an interesting theory ... maybe Google has found a way to index dynamic urls better than they were and you are being indexed twice that way as well.

Just a quick update...
A search for site:associateprograms.com now shows...
191,000 pages!
This compares with 13,300 pages on September 9, 2004.
I don't believe the new figure, but it looks impressive. _________________ Allan Gardyne
