That will be a question for James, I'm sure. I see that site is one that he strayed from his basic structure so maybe that has something to do with it. James experiments with different things to see how they work, so it could be an experiment that didn't work. The AFfiliate Buzz should update Martell Students soon, I'm sure.

I read in another forum that two more of his sites were also pushed back to PR0. It makes the count to 3, as of now. Lets wait and see. _________________ free cell phone - cheap cell phone plans

One of the differences is the number of items in the navigation menu. James recommends keeping it to 5 to 7, that one is quite long. He did mention he was going to be changing those back to his recommended structure however. There may be other things he has done there however that is affecting PR. I know I've seen a ton of sites with lots of links in the navigation placing high in SE, PR, etc.

One of my sites also got grey-barred today. Don't know why but I wrote Google and will wait. I only mention this because it is also a Martell-type site. Actually, the site follows the his book to the letter (except I don't have any affiliate links, only Adsense). My site does follow his "1st-in" domain name style (hope that didn't trigger some new Google filter!).
Anyone else have similar experiences? |

Looks like some of the 1st in domains have been banned. cant see them coming up in rankings and the pr has diminished to 0.
Maybe this was inevitable, who knows, well hear whats going on soon though thats for sure. |

| I think that's a bit of an extreme conclusion to jump to. |

Yea, a number of the sites aren't listed. I suppose it could be a number of things, but I hope we hear something soon. _________________ Robert

| It seems like sites by numerous webmasters have been nailed (judging by some of the posts in the Webmaster World forum). I haven't followed closely since my sites haven't been affected, but it sounds like over optimization could be a factor. Google may be racheting things down. That fitness site uses the keywords four times before the content even starts... *shrug* |

I emailed James' support desk regarding this issue and he has a detailed response crafted up because of the numerous emails he's receiving regarding this issue.
I don't believe over-optimization would zero a site out completely, but rather cause it's results to appear at the bottom of the SERPs.
As for Jame's hypothesis, it involves link farms linking TO his sites. His email explains a lot regarding this issue. I am not allowed to post it here, but if you're interested most people know where to ask him. _________________ Robert

Well, for what it's worth, I checked out my link partners and there is one other site that is grey-barred. I don't think that is what's affecting Google results. Also, James's explanation doesn't seem to apply in my instance because of the following reasons: 1) it's new so there aren't many links in or out and 2) I very much doubt many sites know about my site so the possibility of bad links in is unlikely.
When I get a response from Google, I'll post it here.
Cheers, Phil |

| Ive read the response, seems funny how its only 1st in sites, look around theres millions of trashy places linking to loads of sites, that cant be helped, its the 1st in domain what seems to be an issue here. Robert may be rght normally over opt sites will just go down untill corrected but we dont no what google are doing right now, there taking ages to an update so that says something. Personally i reckon its teh fact the 1st in series are all optimsed to large degree you can draw your own conclusions. Im not dwelling on this Im making another site. |

The only issue with the "1st in" domain is that some of James' sites received a 0, while others didn't. If there was a penalty for using "1st" in the domain, then all of his "1st in" sites should have been affected. _________________ Robert
