I have a number of sites up, including my first of many James Martell
style sites.

I am earning good income out of Adsense, but very little from actual affiliate sales - which is a bit of a worry ?

What are others doing or writing on their sites to lead the visitor to click through to the merchant and how many times do you give them the option on a page and by what type of option - link, banner etc ?

Thanks in advance.

Why is it a worry?

If you're earning good money from AdSense why do want to divert people to affiliate links which aren't earning you money?

It sounds to me as though your system is working nicely.

Wouldn't your time be better spent building more similar pages and attracting more traffic?

Thanks for the comments, Allen.

Yes I sort of agree with your comments, but my consern is that I dont want to be totally reliant on just one income stream.
While its great income today, what would happen if Google made changes
and the income disappeared ?

Also as I am building more sites, it would make sense to build them so they convert well with affilaite programs and adsense as well.

As well, could I be actual be loosing affiliate sales through others stealing or changing my links, and how can I check for this and whats the best software to use to prevent this ?

Excellent point. Ideally, you want to own sites in a variety of industries and receive your revenue from a variety of sources. Don't rely on one merchant or one one affiliate network. Your traffic should also come from a wide variety of sources.

If AdSense did happen to disappear for some reason, there are a number of alternatives you could use. You can see examples here: http://www.AssociatePrograms.som/search/adsense-competitors.shtml .

A worthy aim. In my experience it's much easier to earn a nice income from AdSense because all you have to do is get the click, no sale required.

To increase your affiliate sales, the best way is write a review of the product in which you describe how it has helped you, giving specific details.

That can happen in Internet marketing. Some people are mean spirited enough to do that. I imagine it's rare in other industries.

I don't know. In the end, it's your earnings per click that matters - how much you earn per visitor you send to the merchant.

If you have access to your .htaccess file, I don't think you need to buy software. Just do an .htaccess redirect. Here's a post I did on that:
http://associateprograms.com/discus/viewtopic.php?p=27542&highlight=htaccess+redirect#27542

That hides your affiliate link and gives you a nice neat, short link to use in newsletters.

A determined person can find ways around this if they want to rob you of the commission, just as they can find ways around affiliate cloaking software.

hi bob,
I suggest that you add the "pre-sell" gesture in your product pages. first, start with description of that product and also the advantages. Then, give specific details how to choose a quality product. Then, tell the visitors your top 3 choice, and why you choose them.
For example, if i have a product page about nutritional supplements, i will write articles with these points in mind:
1. what are supplements? why are supplements important?
2. how to choose supplements? give specific details about rules and regulation, industrial standards, labeling etc.
3. how to choose merchants that sell supplements?
4. my top pick of supplements that meet the above mentioned requirements, and other reasons on why they are my top choices. Share personal/others' experience about the recommended supplements.

Those are just some examples. You can use the idea with your industry. Pre-selling is always the way to go, but don't push too hard.

Just my two cents.

Just curious what do you consider good income from ad sense on a monthly basis?

Thanks,

Bobcat, Without seeing your site, I'd only be guessing why you aren't achieving affiliate sales.

For example, perhaps your site is full of spelling (it's "losing" not loosing), grammatical and punctuation errors which create a bad impression, perhaps it's amateurishly designed, perhaps it doesn't look trustworthy, perhaps it doesn't look professional, perhaps you're making the mistake of trying to sell instead of presell, perhaps you've chosen a merchant who doesn't know how to sell, perhaps there's a problem with the tracking, perhaps you've made a mistake with the affiliate links code, perhaps the product you're promoting is hard to sell online ... and so on.

Perhaps it's so darn stodgy and boring that the AdSense ads look more enticing to your visitors than your writing. Come to think of it, that may not be a bad thing!

Please don't take any of these suggestions as criticisms. I haven't seen your site, so I have no idea what you're doing wrong. I could rewrite Ken Evoy's "Make Your Site Sell" while trying to come up with the answer.

You could try asking to a site review in the site review section of the message board. Someone might spot the problem.

You could also ask your affiliate merchant for tips on what you're doing wrong. Good affiliate merchants are always helpful.

Good luck!
