Has anyone had experience with using a forum on a theme based website that could share the positives and negatives? Any and all feedback is welcome.

Positives: You attract traffic and have a lot of fun.

Negatives: Replying to posts can become addictive.

Michael,

I've launched my marketing forum about 3 months ago at http://profits.cc/forum and I find that the section that attracts most interest is the one of posting articles, since my forum was fully indexed by Googlebot.

Now, many well-known authors come and post their articles at my forum, because it does count towards your site's link popularity - thus, you'll get a boost with your Google's PageRank.

Also, when visitors conduct a search at my home page, all 1,300 pages of my site do show up in the search results - including the whole marketing forum. That also helps in providing more valuable content to my site visitors...

Make sure that your new forum offer these features - because they'll help you in getting free targeted traffic via Google / Yahoo / AOL.

Michael,

Since Google spiders dynamic sites pretty well these days, and active forums are one of the best examples of sites with regularly updated content, you can expect frequent and regular visits from Googlebot.

I think I remember Allan saying in another post, that this forum is visited daily. This is a good thing! Smile

I cant wait to finish my regular duties so that I can jump in and enjoy.
