Well I tracked down the problem - one of my spyware killers was stopping me getting there. So whilst I'm happy to have resolved it, it does leave me wondering how many potential customers are getting lost due to the same problem. I know this is a big issue for CJ, and I guess it's only going to spread to the other networks. Where will it all end?

I'm having trouble logging into Linkshare today. I ran Spybot a couple of days ago (in an effort to solve the problem of being able to log in to the SBI forum). And I downloaded the new XP security pack.
I don't know what to do now to be able to log in. Any suggestions, please?
Thank you,

If you are using IE, go into the Security section under Internet Options (on the Tools menu), and check the "Restricted Sites" list. Spybot puts a load of entries in there for Linkshare (and Linksynergy), Commission Junction, and a ton of others - you'll need to delete them. Unfortunately this means of course, that anyone else running Spybot and clicking on your affiliate links will end up with a dead end

Thank you for the response T32! I deleted Spybot yesterday because I just seemed to be having too many problems. I did check the Restricted Sites list today as you suggested and did not see anything listing Linkshare, Linksynergy or Commission Junction.
I am still not able to get into Linkshare, although I can get into other sites.
Any other thoughts?

I can't get into Linkshare today either. I can get into CJ no problem. I have spybot too so I looked in the restricted sites but didn't see linkshare in there. I wrote to linkshare and have not heard back yet. Very odd.
Anybody know what might be causing this? Thanks. |

You could try checking your Hosts file. In windows it's in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and is a text file called "Hosts" - you can open it in notepad or similar. If there are any entries in there for linkshare.com then they will probably be stopping it working, so remove them (back up the file first just in case!).

Linkshare sent me an email saying they improved their security features.
The email talks about spybot and pop-up blockers and various other things that can cause a problem logging in -- and how to solve it.
It's a pretty long email and I'm not sure if they want it publicly posted so if you are having problems just send them an email and get their advice.
Best wishes. |

I got an email from Linkshare, too, probably the same one. It actually didn't help me. The email I got appeared to be pre- the August XP security update, so the steps weren't right.
Anyway, the way I solved the problem was to add https://ssl.linksynergy.com to my Trusted Sites list (under Security, under Internet options on Internet Explorer).
