Post subject: i need reliable hosting with reasonable price
|

Well, I?ve been scanning web for reliable webhost and getting pretty frustrated. I should probably write a book called: Odyssey for hosting.
I can?t go for SBI cause I can?t pay 300 bucks upfront (and to be honest, as much as I?ve seen pages made with SBI, I?m not overly excited about SBI?s template designs either. I know I can design my own, and probably have to do it anyway, but still ...).
I?ve been thinking a lot about choosing host4profit, but I?m not sure how long would I be able to afford it (my budget is pretty limited).
And as for budget hosts - well if you do a little backround research, for most of them you find lots of bad reviews. As you get what you pay for.
Ipowerweb and lunarpages seemed to be most reliable, but then again there is this setup fee, so altogether it doesn?t turn out that cheap afterall
(and I can?t, neither want to pay the whole year upfront).
Hostingmatters seemed quite OK, but I?d still like bit more feedback on their services. I found very few reviews about them, when searching Google. I saw one review on this board, but has anyone else used them also?
So, would you be so kind and share your experiences with your hostingproviders?

How many websites do you want/need?
If you want more than 1, I suggest BA Port ( http://ba-port.thedropshipguide.com )
They allow 5 domains withe 50 MB of space each (with full CGI, PHP, FTP, stats and more) for $15.00 US a month.
You can get 15 domains for $25.00 US a month. This does not include the cost of registering the domain, but there is no setup fees.
And their tech support is phenomenal. I usually get a response within 2 hours... even on weekends and hollidays. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I use ucvhost for my website. They offer ftp, cgi, php, mysql and all stuf with 25 mb space for a domain. The hosting including domain reg is $20 per year. SO far they have been very good.

At the moment 1 website. However, looking at the future,
I intend build some additional sites. At the first look, BAPort seems quite OK. I'll take your word on their customer support. The biggest issue with hosting, as I noticed when reviewing companies, seems to be support. And next one downtime. Even though I'm pretty familiar with web technicalities (I mean setting up the site etc.), I want to be sure the support is there when I need it. And the quality of support also shows the company's attitude towards their clients, doesn't it?
As with ucvhost, I saw some pretty negative comments on their support, which made me a bit sceptical about them. However, one more impression I got from the compare-the-hosts type of sites, was that looks like some people have devoted their life on giving bad reviews. Go figure.

Another nice thing about BA Port is the fact that they also allow unlimited subdomains. And you can set up the subdomain with .htaccess redirects very easily.
This means that you can have a subdomain (such as http://ba-port.thedropshipguide.com ) that redirects to the BA Port website, w/out using the HTTP Refresh method.
I think BA Ports goal is to be a good hosting service for those people who want to run multiple sites, and who want to make a living from their sites.
As to the service? I have used their tech support about 6 times now. Mostly little stuff, and sometimes just questions clarifying something, but they have always been prompt, accurate and polite. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

For several months, AssociatePrograms.com has been hosted at pair.com.
I'm very happy with it. Tech support has been very good. I'm happy to recommend it - I just wish it had an affiliate program.
Re the cost of Site Build It... $300 divided by 12 equals $25 a month, and you get site building tools, research tools, site promotion, etc, etc., and in our experience it gives people new to affiliate programs the best chance of succeeding, because it enables you build sites that get found in search engines. That's a heck of a lot more than mere web hosting.

Hello all.
Like many people I've had to change hosts a number of times over the years. From my experience, mentioning no names, price and quality (at least regarding support) have not always been directly proportional, so to speak. To be honest, I feel myself being pushed ever further towards a dedicated server. It's not really a route I want to go, but I just can't seem to get a nice balance between robust hosting, fast, knowledgeable support and price. I sometimes think it would be cheaper to go dedicated, even if that meant having to pay for some help with the set up. and the occasional problem. (I run a number of sites.)

They are on my shortlist, should I need to change again. Planet Ocean have been recommending them for years. Glad they are working out for you, Allan.

As a matter of fact, I think SBI! is pretty good value for reliable hosting alone. The only stumbling block for some is the upfront cost. If you're happy with the approach, it's certainly value for money.
Cheers,

I know that once my two websites start reliably producing some income (enough to cover expenses and a bit extra) I plan on moving another 2 websites over to SBI.
Why? Can't beat the extras. As I mentioned in another post, I have at least one website that will never go SBI. I need MySQL and PHP for it. Another website (my original domain from 4 years ago) will not go SBI either. Why? It is jut a "junk" domain to test concepts, post blogs and rants and anything else I put up. Or to host family pages from friends.
But for my business related sites (ie, those to earn money) I plan on using SBI as much as possible. Even for an existing site.... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Hi all,
As some of you might know, my other major hobby is game programming. In some of the forums i visit, there has been threads of this and almost always pair.com came out as the choice of most developers. Now allan also recommends it. So they must be really good. I may check them out soon for my next project.
To your success,

I know that SBI comes with several great tools, as shown in Affiliate Masters Course, SiteSell's SBI pages and also in AssociatePrograms page.
After all I've done my research on SBI . The problem is $300 payment upfront, I simply can't afford it. If there were monthly payments available, I might go for it .

You could do what I did. Not recommended for everyone but...
I floated the cost of SBI on a credit card. I figure I can make the cost back within 3 months (including interest) so I did it. I wish I didn't have to float it, but it was well worth it. The time my wife has saved (and the amount we have both learned about building profitable websites) has been worth it. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

i've heard about this dayana host (http://www.dayanahost.com). i heard good things about them and they really do have quite a bargain. for starters, they have a small package of $6.00 per year. i think it's good for small mini sites like some affiliates build (like me).
i don't have any sites to build yet for now ... but when i do, i plan on testing them out. _________________ Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino

Daynahost looks pretty good if you don't need a lot of bandwith per month. Or a lot of email addresses. Or subdomains...
Some of the business plans provide enough bandwidth, but I think I can do better than ~ $80 a month.
Also, and this is true with most hosting packages, include http://ba-port.thedropshipguide.com , The autoresponders are the "vacation autoresponders", not the sequential ones that you need to run a good business. And the mailing list software is not what you would use for a newsletter. It is more of a list style where everyone can write back and forth to each other.
It is hard to find a package, other than SBI, which includes the autoresponder and newsletter modules. So even if you only pay the $6 per year, you still need to buy the other modules... _________________ Eric D. Burdo
