Interesting to see that this old 2004 thread is still going!
I've paid as little as $5 for articles and years ago hired a journalist to write a bunch of lively, well researched, well written articles for $100 each.
Years later, the $100 articles have paid for themselves many times over, in AdSense revenue.

That's my fault, for being an idiot.
I am used to a fast-moving forum ... if I leave there for 3 hours I'd need to go back 3 pages to catch up with where I was... didn't check the dates. Doh!
I was looking yesterday at how much one good article writer I know charges. It seems to be about $5 per 500 word article. That's for somebody with a consistent article-writing history, who has a degree from a British University. She writes 100% genuinely unique content. |

Great question, if you want seriously written content then you would probably have to pay more serious $$$ for it, versus mediocre content, which could be written by a freelancer for about $5-6 per 500 words.

| It depends on the article, if it's a custom article sometimes the article writers negotiate the price, but a standard of $3 per 100 words is normal |

From my experience as an article writer and a buyer, one thing you should always consider is type, since the type and purpose of your articles will dictate the quality and length of every article being written.
Another important aspect that I would consider is the style, as a matter of word the style used will dictate time used in research and writing.
