Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions/advice/encouragement.
Tim, I might be new to this game, but even I can see you're better off without that clown of a merchant!

Hi Bri,
I would just like to say WELL DONE
Never let yourself down-you've managed to get a lot of traffic to your site & it will continue to grow, so this has to say that your doing something right!-I think its very important to accept your faults but never to the point that you start to lose confidence IN YOURSELF.
If you dont mind there is a site for "newbies"-and its great!, I will not insult you by giving the URL now, but if you wish send me a private message & ill pass it on.
We all need help from time to time-sometimes alot.
If you never ask-you never know. _________________ With Regards,

Post subject: Response Rates
|
|
|
Keep in mind statistics and response rates. Flip a coin 10 times. One would expect 5 heads and 5 tails. Yet, it is possible to get 10 heads and no tails when the sample is small. The point is that 100 clicks is very small sample size.
Another point is response rates. A free sample could have a response rate of 10 ? 40%. Our on-line card decks offer free samples, brochures, etc for consumers and see conversions of 10 ? 30% (example: http://asp.myfree.com/ot4/).
On the other hand, we operate eCommerce sites where are selling merchandise (niche video tapes, craft books, incontinence products) and often have conversion rates less than 1%.
Best wishes.

Brian,
when rewriting your pages, please keep in mind that you wqant to do the pre-selling. The selling should be done by the merchant.
This important factor has been mentioned quite often by Ken Evoy in his Affiliate Masters Course and I can only confirm that it is true.
When your site visitor sees copy on your site that sells, and sees something similar on the merchants site, s/he gets confused and leaves the site.
Anyway, good luck with your project and building targeted traffic
PS: why not include your URL in your sig file here on the board? Most of us do. _________________ Explore The Most Up to Date Site About How to Succeed with Adwords! |

Good point about the preselling. It's an easy trap to fall into, if you ask me...
Only problem is, if you find a good product with a bad sales letter. This is all too common in some markets - software springs to mind, especially. Basically, if the merchant's idea of a sales letter is a list of features and a link to an order form, you may have to do some selling of your own!
You can always choose not to promote the product, but it seems a bit of a shame if it's something you really believe in.
All the best,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Thanks for the tips shochwert, onlineleben and charlie.
Here's a tip of my own...
I've had a bit of a disappointment in the last few days. I added AdSense to my site last week, and everything seemed to be okay until the Google Freshbot picked up my newly AdSensed pages. A few days later, I've dropped hundreds of places in the rankings, and my visitors have of course disappeared in tandem!
Now, AdSense isn't supposed to affect your rankings, but if you don't use CommonSense(tm) as well, you will lose out! I didn't use my common sense and in order to fit AdSense in nicely, deleted a few little paragraphs that contained keywords Google must have thought were important!
Waaahhhh!
I've bumped my keyword density back up to what it was, so I'll have to wait a few days for Freshbot to do it's stuff again, and hope that I get my ranking back!

Just to clarify something...
Google says that the robot that spiders the AdSense ads is a totally separate robot from the one that spiders web sites. Google says they don't "talk" to each other. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Allan,
I noticed that too, and that's what made me look at the previous version of my page to see if I'd done something stupid when I added AdSense. That's when I noticed I had accidentally removed a few keywords to make room for it.
I reposted this message on the AdSense forum as a new topic, as a warning to other people not to make the same mistake - hopefully it will save someone else the hassle!
Another lesson learned for the newbie, I suppose.

Well I'm new to this forum and decided to join after reading zhanas frustration with traffic to her site. The thing we're all after - and sometimes it ain't easy!
The following address will give you a free download audio ebook which will show you 9 steps of how to generate traffic. It is by Stephan Ducharme. Apparently this is the latest system out not to be missed.

Also try putting your website address on Trafficswarm.com to guarantee you some traffic right now, its' free to join. I hope I've been of some help.
Good luck. |

Before using TrafficSwarm, read some of the posts about generating traffic. TS (and similar programs) have been discussed in detail. The general consensus is that they are a waste of time and bandwidth, since they generate HITS and not TARGETED VISITORS. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I have read on various message boards that "MoneyHome" is a huge waste of money, and almost a scam. Be careful before forking out $200. _________________ Discounted Golf Equipment
