Before you jump into CSS with both feet take a deep breath, I do NOT recommend trying to build a "fully CSS" site.
Like most things CSS should be taken in moderation. Personally I don't agree that "fully CSS" sites load blazingly faster than a well-designed "tables based" site, in fact, it might be my imagination but there seems to always be a bit of a pause as the "fully CSS" site loads.
Unfortunately many of the "fully CSS" proponents go after it like eco-zealots and tend to hate tables just for the hell of it (and anything Microsoft for some reason). Tables are a fully legitimate W3 standard as far as I know.
Check this page out....I love a little controversy.

I like what you did with the design on your test page! Will your domain name go in the box at the top?

Hey Allan, are you using modem connection? the graphics should load.. and I have tested the download speed on WebsiteOptimization.com. The stats are as follows :
Connection Rate / Download Time
- 14.4K (11.84 seconds)
- 28.8K (6.12 seconds)
- 33.6K (5.30 seconds)
- 56K (3.34 seconds)
- ISDN 128K (1.30 seconds)
- T1 1.44Mbps (0.48 seconds)
Btw, I recommend anyone with large sites to check out their download speeds...
Debs, you liked my new design? I got some inspiration from other sites and comments to add colourful graphics ... and yes, I am in the midst of finding new fonts to place my domain name in the top header. Got some help from sitepoint.com to modify some CSS codes. It shd look better on NS 7.1/Mozilla now
Keep the feedback coming! |

Yes I'm a thousand miles from home.
On http://www.famous-art-prints.net/test.htm The whole page loaded in about 8 seconds but the graphic at the topic didn't appear.
On http://www.famous-art-prints.net the page loaded fast but the graphic at the top left didn't display. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Thks Debs, will check out your fonts site links. And David too, for your nice comments!
Gee Allan, I dunno what could be blocking those graphics from loading on your browser. But I'll check out with the sitepoint.com folks. Maybe its some remote access problems. Thks for your help too... |
