Post subject: Subdomains and redirects
|
|
|
I will be building a semi-niche website and one of my monetizing vehicles will be another catchy name that I would own that would be is a subset of the bigger domain niche. In addition, as part of that sub domain, I have a specific brand of my own that I want to promote. Confused yet?
My question is "Knowing that redirects won't get me listed in Search Engines, how can I achieve this for the other names?".
To illustrate, since I used Ferrets in another question, let me continue that analogy here. If my main domain was "FerretCare.com", how would I get "FunFerretToys.com" listed, along with the .com name of the brand name of a specific toy that we created called "FoolishFerret" as in "FoolishFerret.com"?
I don't really want to create two additional SBI sites optimized for those words, nor would I be able to create enough content for them, except by completely duplicating my main site. I know I can just create them as Tier 2 or Tier 3 pages. But can I create them with their own domain name and linked to the main site? Will that count as pages and help my main site ranking?
References to posts where you have already talked about this would be greatly appreciated. |

SBI doesn't offer subdomain setup so you can't use that as you describe. Any other domain you set up to go to your SBI site will show the home page as the default page.
Tier 2 and 3 pages are the only way to building sections within an SBI site. You could do a separate site, non SBI, for the other domains and maintain their content there. You do want to be careful not to "over crosslink" the sites so you don't incur a penalty.
The reason subdomains won't work with SBI is because you cannot create the subfolders needed to initially create the subdomain structure. All html files have to go in the root directory.

Rats. Now I remember reading that in the Action Guide and being bummed at the time. Thanks for reminding me.
OK. But the Action Guide also talks about building several niche sites and then tying them all together with one master site with links to the individual sites. If you did that, how would the Master site score in the Search Engines? It would have all the keywords in a nice home page and then, through the links to the other sites, content filled pages on those topics. Does that fit in to what they are looking for? I thought it all had to be on one site. |

No, I believe the Action Guide is talking about a variety of separate sites, each with their own content, related but not exact, and a master site that also has it's own content, but links to the other sites.

If you review...
http://results.sitesell.com/
You will find some good examples of SBI'ers who have done it.
All the best
