Hi Gary,
It gave me a nasty shock when I took an affiliate cheque (check) in $dollars to the bank. They took a large bite out of it and that did not make me a happy bunny. I guess it would be the same in Australia.
I would think the Affiliate Program Manager who figures a good way to overcome this problem would have a very competitive edge.
But, maybe I'm just being a whinging pom and should be happy to have earned a check.
All the best,
Larry Chamberlain.

I've never had a problem cashing $US checks in the UK.
I've found my bank charges a fixed fee to process them, so wherever possible I set the payout limit to several hundred dollars.
That way I receive checks less often, but the bank takes a proportionally smaller chunk.
And don't forget some affiliate programs will pay by Paypal straight into your Paypal account. Allan covered this some time ago in his newsletter so if you're interested search his archives.
All the best,
Richard |

Hi Gary!
I live in Germany and I never had any problems with my affiliate checks. You should rise the payout amount. My bank charges a fixed fee for the checks I process with them. Also a lot of affiliate merchants now pay your commission via PayPal, which you can use for buying other products or cash them to your bank account with a low fee.
All the best

Thanks very much I found it: Associate Programs Newsletter #213
PayPay it would seem would solve the problem very nicely. Not sure about larger checks though, it'll take me a year to earn one.
All the best,
Larry Chamberlain.

The Australian banks will take your checks OK and probably charge you a $10 (Australian) fee for each one. They all charge like wounded bulls.
However, remember that everything banks do is negotiable. They won't offer you the best possible deal upfront. Once you've established a decent record with them, start bargaining for lower fees. If they say no, be persistent. Try again in a few months. We've found that one branch of the National Australia Bank gave us a special deal but when we moved to Caloundra the nearest branch wouldn't repeat the offer. So we do our banking through the old branch that looks after us.
One merchant pays directly into my bank account.
In the meantime, concentrate on a small number of good affiliate programs. If you do that, what you pay in bank fees won't bother you at all. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Thanks for the input everyone,
I think I will be ok with google then as they pay monthly only if the amount is above 100 Bucks US, Im doing well with them so losing 10 bucks of this is ok (100 US works out to be 154 AU). I may have to cull off amazon Im getting clicks to them but no buyers so unless I can get large returns its not worth it, this is a shame as they do have a good product range. |

Hello,
I live in Italy, so I too have encountered this problem. The US dollar checks go through ok, but it is expensive - so...
1) As other have said, raise the limit, so your checks are bigger.
2) I have asked Merchant partners to send Euro payments so I don't lose on the exchange - they are relatively small merchants and were willing, but I don't think this will work with big boys like Google, but it is worth keeping in mind (especially if you are a good affiliate ).
In any case, it nevers hurts to ask... _________________ Timothy Warnock

My case is not like yours.
I want USD from paypal, not local currency.
Paypal force you to accept their currency exchange when withdraw cash.
i need usd.
In your case, you prefer the merchants send you Euro ( your local currency) instead of USD ? _________________ http://sunsss.com |

Instead of cashing the cheque , deposit it straight into your bank account.
That's what I do and my bank ( Bank of New Zealand ) doesn't charge any fees !
Or you could open up a foreign currency account ($USD) with your local bank. |

This maybe a little bit out of the topic. Just sharing experience, OK.
I only have CJ right now and with CJ, one of the option is Singapore Dollar and I am from Malaysia. From my experience, it took a week for the cheque to arrive to my place (from your third cheque onwards) and two weeks to clear into my bank account. But I can see that I lose a little bit on the exchange. You see the exchange goes USD -> SGD -> MYR. For that I lose something around MYR 20 (equiv $ 5.00) and then there's also the processing fee and the stamp duty, RM 7.50 (equiv $2.00).
I haven't tried deposting a USD cheque before. Maybe I'll give a try sometime later. I do think that it might take longer and higher fee. _________________ Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino

That's interesting, I tried the same thing in the UK and got a large slice taken from the check.
I haven't tried opening a foreign currency account, I'll look into that.
