Post subject: I think my links / structure is wrong
|
|
|
Hi,
I've recently built
http://www.great-climbing-gear.com
Registered on Google and applied at DMOZ early April. Not getting much traffic yet. There are no incoming links.
You'll see the site is modelled on Rupert's famous cheap-computers-guide site. [Not famous enough, apparently. URL corrected. Admin.] (Actually I tried to set up a cup of coffee with him, and talk about things, but we were in different cities on the only weekend available.)
After doing my research I can say my best key words are
ice climbing gear
rock climbing rope
rock climbing school
climbing school
mountain climbing
mountain climbing gear
extreme rock climbing
rock cimbing shoes
ice climbing
indoor rock climbing
rock climbing
rock climbing gear
I'm reasonably happy with the optimization of each page for their keywords, but I am uncertain about the way I've linked the pages.
Did I link well? How can I link better?
Also, I realise I can add more pages by splitting up the bigger pages into several smaller ones.
Should I split pages and add categories (like climbing rope, ice axes etc) and put several articles in each category, each article optimized for the category keyword?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Len |

Hi Len,
It can take a while for Dmoz to list your site. They've got a forum at http://www.resource-zone.com where you can register and -politely- ask them the status of your site, but don't re-submit it! Tell them when and where you submitted it (ie. under what category).
Have you tried contacting other rock climbing or climbing websites to link back to you?
Where did you do your research (not that I'm critisizing at all)? Have you tried www.wordtracker.com ?
I think a site-map will help greatly. It's basically a page that has all the links your other pages on it. It will help SE's find the other pages.
If you think it'll help the visitors by splitting pages up so they're not as long, and more "categorized" then I would say go for it!
I like it overall though! --Hope this helps! _________________ Thanks

Yes, thanks for that, Matthew, appreciate it.
I do have a page for links (which I haven't filled yet) and a site map. But I obviously need more patience with DMOZ. Will do.
I used GooKeyWords and S Roy for the keyword research (both out of India) but I used Wordtracker on my next site. I want to compare the results.
Links. I still have the feeling that my LINK STRUCTURE is also part of the problem. Thanks for your comnments. Let's see if anyone else will say something about them.
Thanks again, matthew.
