Post subject: 2 New Google AdSense Ad Layout Options
|
|
|
Hi everyone,
Last night Google announced two new ad layout options. Here's what they wrote:
"Google is constantly improving the AdSense program, and we
want to let you know about the latest feature enhancement
available.
"As you know, we launched the color customization feature
last week. Now we are pleased to announce two more ad layout
choices: horizontal leaderboard (728x90) and inline rectangle
(300x250). The additional layout choices allow you to gain
greater control over the look and feel of your web pages. You
can view all of the available ad layouts by visiting
http://www.google.com/adsense/adformats ."
We've gotten a number of subscribers who've asked for our recommendations on these new layouts. Here's our first take on them:
In general, we recommend you select the layout that works best with the design of your site. Then, you can experiment and test which produces the best results for you.
One caveat: As Google recommends, (unless there is a compelling reason not to) avoid the 'Banner' format to display your AdWords. We, too, recommend you avoid the Banner format because people have become "banner blind" to this type of horizontal format -- especially at the top of your page.
Plus, the Banner format only displays up to 2 ads on a page (rather than up to 4), which will likely reduce your earnings. Further, Google has "trained" us to click on relevant text ads on their own site, and they use the 'Skyscraper' format (which is vertical).
If you'd like to see how the new formats would look with ads about your topic, you can use our free AdSense Web Tool.

Great. I like the new formats, and the skyscraper.
Now I just need to get a site accepted, and then I can use AdSense. Hopefully that should be in the next month...
Keep up the good info Audri! _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Thanks. Hope you get accepted soon.
BTW, one webmaster I know tripled her conversion rate by going from the Banner format to the new Inline Rectangle (300 x 250)!
That's not really surprising because so many people are banner blind -- plus, you're displaying up to twice as many AdWords.
So, if you're using the Banner format, I strongly recommend you test one of the other formats.

Hi Audri
Many thanks for your valuable contributions. I read each word of them
I'm testing few color customized AdSense banners (468x60). Though its too early to write a final conclusion, I have already noticed that the conversion rate is doubled by integrating banners within my pages. The reason might be that visitors see text links and not banners.
I shall wait and see whether the CTR will stay as it is, increase or just drop after a while.
Here are few examples:

and I have just added today to my frontpage the new Leaderboard (728 x 90).

All the best,

Hi Audri
Updating.......
As of today, the conversion rate of my color customized AdSense banners are still as double as that of the standard banners I installed at the beginning.
Shall keep this thread posted of any change in conversion rate (though without mentioning the exact clickthrough rate, as Google doesn?t allow that).
All the best,
Harith
