Post subject: ebook vs. content site

This may have been discussed before, but my searches did not turn up anything, so here is something to start discussion:
If someone has niche knowledge/material enough for a an ebook (and/or paper book even), how much overlap do YOU think is good to have between the ebook and the content.
Some would say to just set up a mini-site to market the ebook. But for this discussion, the assumption is there will be a content site and an ebook that will be sold (intended as a product to add value, and an income source, to the website)
Do you think that most of the content in the ebook should be available on the website (spread throughout different articles) (and perhaps via a newsletter)? None of it? Some of it? Where is the balance?
Related to this, how might one survey or test the water to find what balance might work best in your niche?
There is no right answer, to this. I'm sure "it all depends" I'm just looking to stir up some lively discussion, because I'm not sure what I think is best for something I have slowly stewing in my brainstormer. What do you think?

Actually I have thought about it, but don't have an answer either
The only thing I can say is it wouldn't make sense (to me at least) to have all the content on the site, then put it into an ebook for sale. If you have a good content site, you will have some overlap of content, but I think it should be minimal in order to give the best value to the purchasers of your ebook.
