I've spent the last 2 days at ODP resource forum reading and waiting for the status of my site submission to DMOZ. Some request are answered within minutes, some are never answered. People have been waiting in some cases for over a year for a review of their site. Granted they recieve tons of site submissions and evidently don't have enough editors to review the submissions. Some editors are rude, some are helpful. Why does someone want to be an editor in the first place? Would it be a shortcut to get their site(s) listed? I know I did the same with Zeal altho I've never edited a site. I feel kinda guilty for this. Being that I'm so impatient, I asked when I might expect to get an answer on the status of my submission and got this reply. "It takes until an editor with relevant access gets to your post. Each editor has a different set of access priviledges, and different interests, so they will answer the questions for areas they can and wish to access." So far none has "wished to access" my submission status.
If anyone wants to stand in line for submission status (good luck) you can stand here http://resource-zone.com/forum/ |

"Effective midnight, no more sites will ever be listed in ODP."
There is no other reference to this statement on the site. |

How about posting a link to the thread so we can view it in context? _________________ Learn how to turn keyphrases into quality, well-targeted articles your visitors and SE's will love with Gary Antosh's new ebook "Web Content Made Easy!" |

Ahhh, well I also see it is after his disclaimer of:
Opinions stated are my own, and may not reflect ODP policy.

I have to say, they are rather rude over there at DMOZ/ODP. Reminds me of SH.
I'm too afraid to log in here, as I'm still waiting to be reviewed and I wouldn't want to offend them. Too much power and control they have.
Such is life. |

Rude? I not sure so sure. "Pissed off"? maybe
Have you noticed how many threads are from posters who do not follow the instructions?; try to scam ODP?; who do not read the FAQ's?; submission from sites who clearly are aganist the guidelines etc - I would be rude too. Besides what do they owe you? Are they accountable to you?
They are not rude to those who follow the instructions and format requests properly.... do not be afraid to log in and ask the status
If you are unhappy with the service from ODP and think that their "customer service" staff are rude, then I suggest you request a refund. |

| I did a very careful job back submitting my site back in January and I'm still waiting. Those folks are very busy. I think it is partly luck if you get in the right category or have an editor who is not too busy. They are doing their best so I have not bugged them by asking whassup. |

I, too, have been waiting a little while for review of my site at DMOZ (4 months).
The old advice used to be to check in with them once a month or so to politely inquire for an update on your site submission. The last time I checked with them, they told me there was no change. They also told me that the guidelines have changed and submitters may now only request an update every six months.
I suppose this may mean that if you haven't checked on your status at all yet, perhaps it would be helpful to do so now, since you won't be able to get another update for six months. But hopefully, you'll already be in by then.
In a way, only checking every six months sort of takes off some pressure. It's a gift if I get in, but in the meantime (and even after), I'll keep plugging along.

I know it took me 8 months to get in, and only after I revised the design so it was viewable in Netscape v4.

I once read an article from PLanet Ocean, apparently DMOZ does accept affiliate site if the site contains useful and unique contents. Perhaps a better approach would be dropping your affiliate links only AFTER your site has got listed.
hope this helps. |

1. Sites with affiliate links are reviewed as if they had none. If they could stand by themselves and have content, they would be included, provide that the affilaite advertsing is not the main part of the site. My reference to affiliates not being allowed refers to sites that only sell affiliate products, such as SMC product steis or sites whose only purpose is to sell books through Amazon.
2. Editors are not unaware of this idea.

I too have become frustrated with getting sites into DMOZ. It's always a crapshoot even if you have a top notch site. That's why I invented StartPlane (link in sig). It allows everyone to share traffic and get quality links from a DMOZ clone directory. We're already starting to build some good ORGANIC traffic so if you would like to join please feel free to do so. Affiliate sites are more than welcome. _________________ Double Your Traffic! - The StartPlane Traffic Exchange gives you back double the traffic with no pop-ups! |
