Bear with me, I'm new to all this.
Right now my site can be found in Google by doing a URL search. I need to go in and add my meta tags.
Once I update my pages with meta tags, how long will it be before Google finds the changes and makes the appropriate changes?
Thanks,

Hi scott
Google usually update changes in meta tags on my pages within a week or so.
But I guess it depends on how often your site is visited by Google crawler "Googlebot". You can se that by taking a look at your site logfile.
All the best,
Harith

Harith is correct in that it depends on how often your site is visited by Googlebot - which varies and is dependent on several factors (note: you can increase the frequency, or get listed initially much quicker by placing backward links on sites that are visited by Googlebot *very* frequently )
Regarding the meta tags, Google no longer reads them. You may still want to include them for other search engines that do, though.
Hope that helps _________________ Lynn Terry

Thanks for the tip Lynn,
What is a backwards link? I'm sorry but I've never heard of the term before. _________________ Want to learn how to fish?

p.s. The link in my signature is a 'backward link'
My main problem is that the link text, "Self-Starters Weekly Tips" does me absolutely no good as far as keyword indexing goes... {sigh} - I'm still racking my brain trying to think of the perfect phrase to use when setting up my backward links!
My point being that since many of these high-traffic forums are spidered or crawled frequently, it is very beneficial to include a link in your signature - and even more so when you link text that contains keywords or a keyword phrase that matches the SERP's (search engine results page) you are trying to rank high in. _________________ Lynn Terry

Interesting Lynn,
I never realized that these forums are spired as well. Though it does make sense. It looks like I need to change my signature !!
Thanks again! _________________ Want to learn how to fish?

Hello folks.
Just a quick question...
I think I read recently that although Google does indeed still spider forum posts, it has now stopped taking notice of links in these posts when it comes to link popularity and PageRank.
Can anyone clarify.
Thanks,
Charlie. |

One thing I've noticed is that when this revamped forum was launched a few weeks ago every internal page in this forum was automatcally being given a PageRank 3 by Google. However, Google has stopped doing that. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Hi,
I have seen in other peoples web pages things that look like code that tells the spider to come back after 7 days or something similar. Is that even possible?
