Post subject: Google back links
|
|
|
Hi everyone, hope your all ok.
Does anyone know why certain sites don?t come up on back links at google.
For example a site with a pr of 5, links to a lot of good related sites. The only problem is that these sites don?t show the back links to the originated site with the pr5.
Now I have talked about this before with Debs and I think we were saying how it was about certain code implemented on the web page code. Can anyone clarify this for me?
Google is realling peeving me off, I have managed to get about 6 pr 5s linking to me, but then I look at the sites the site links to, and these sites dont even show that page as a backward link.
Warmest regards

If the other pages aren't showing as backlinks to the originating site, and they are at least a PR4, then it sounds like something fishy is going on at the originating site.
It does take a while for Google to pick up backlinks, took over 2 months for a few I had but they did show.

I know that there are perhaps 50 clean links to one of my new sites which Google does not appear to recognise if you check backlinks with the G toolbar or with link:mysite.com.
The common factor with these links is that they all come from pages named "links.htm" or similar.
My summary - for some reason G does not display links from "links.htm" pages when asked. However, it does take them into account when calculating off-page popularity for its SERPs.
In conclusion, if you only want links that will be visible to you through Google, only accept links from pages not called "links.htm".

I understand what you are saying and appreciate the feedback.
There are pages such as this one
http://www.imaging-resource.com/pages/Printers/
If you look at this page, the top link links to my site.
Google does not show back links at all for any of the sites this site links to?
This is no links.htm
I have this dilemma on lots of other high pr sites.
So are you saying regardless of Google not showing, the engine still takes all incoming pr from other sites?
I just find this strange as I had a few pr 5 sites linking to me before hand, and my pr went down to pr 3 because it only seemed to recognise one pr4 linking to me on the back links check.
Warm regards

This site uses a script to track clicks, rather than a clean HTML link to link to your site. If you hover your mouse over the link, you'll see this in the status bar. Google doesn't follow links like that, so no incoming link or PR credit for you.

My suggestion is that "links.htm" pages still pass Google linking benefits, in the main, for clean links. This may not be relevant in your case, though.
However, I've seen it suggested that Google may impose non-PR-passing penalties to pages it disapproves of, while that page may still display PR in the G toolbar.

Remember that sites linking to you will suffer PR fluctuations, which will be passed on to the sites they link to.
Hope this helps

I agree with Niall in that the page you show with your link is a cgi redirect link, and I've also found that Google passes no PR, and doesn't even count the link as a backlink with redirect links.

I'd suspect all engines would have problems with redirect links.
Couldn't be 100% sure, though...

AllTheWeb and Altavista have shown backlinks for my site, even when they are cgi. But those SE's don't do "PR" so that's not a big deal.
Yahoo will be doing their "WebRank" so it will be interesting to watch and see if they will count them.
