Recently, it has been noticed that only the unique articles per directory you submit is worth. Google now gives value only to those links in the articles which are totally unique. So, it is better to compose unique and fresh articles on new topics that could benefit you in future.

There's tons of places out there that allow guest article posting. I've done this myself and it's a great way to build your links to your site and get more traffic. Its quite satisfying at the end of the day to pull up the site and see your article as the latest post 
Just remember:
1) Make it useful
2) Write for the audience, not for the search engines (although this is the product of writing guest articles)
3) Don't promote yourself...too much
