I can't believe it. It's bad enough that we are dealing with Norton and everything they're doing.

It looks like this company, 550Access, has designed a free toolbar that stops sponsored ads and banner advertising in search engines and on websites.

Here is the article: http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/040310/064214.html

At the bottom of the article, you can contact the president via e-mail about his "new" toolbar...how exciting Mad

Is this becoming a trend? Are we really going to have to think about new ways to get our Adsense ads to show or even our affiliate links if it comes to that?

Another discussion about this can also be found at the webproworld forum at http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=16025

Yes, it is becoming a trend.

Let's face it, ads on web sites aren't very popular and anybody who comes up with something to block them is ound to be a public hero.

The fact that the search engines and lots of sites won't be there at all if the ads go away is something the internet people at large prefers not to think about.

Personaly I won't miss the traditional banner ads at all. It's not as if they bring me (nor any other webmaster I think) much income at all. Basically they're just a lazy way to pretend you're making money.

I will miss the search engines though. That is, I'll miss the search engines we have today. I'm sure they'll adjust and find new methods to make money, but I'm seriously worried about how they'll do it.
