Post subject: money still in the list?
|
|
|
We all know the saying : Money is in the list. But I came to thinking - For how long? Considering all the trouble with the email, I wouldn't be surprised, if money is leaving the list. I used to subscribe to quite a lot of ezine, but for now I've unsubscribed from most of them - merely because I got too much email and didn't have time to read all those newsletters. If the ezine wasn't unique enough, it got fired. I still get quite a lot of email every day, 2/3 of it however comes from people, who are very concerned about the size of the certain part of my body, and for some reason want to "turn my spud into a stud".
So, what are your predictions for the future, when it comes to email? |

I'm not exactly a fan of Microsoft, but if Bill Gates can come good on his promise to get rid of spam it will make the world a better place.
I just checked my inbox and i've got 36 emails, only two of which are legit. Thats in a period of roughly 12 hours.
Now here is the issue. Why do I keep getting the same old junk day after day. These guys aren't spamming me for their own amusement, so they are obviously making money. If the gullible few could stop supporting these scum by clicking on their ads they won't have a market for their spam. |

Not much chance of that. Gates' plan simply doesn't take the actual facts into account.
Such as:
It has been estimated that 70 percent of all spam are actually sent from computers belonging to people guilty only of being sloppy with their virus protection.
The method is simple (in theory at least): the spammer programs a spam-sending virus. Then he lets the visrus spread and sit back and leave everything to sombody else's computer.
In other words Gates' "ingenious" method won't affect the spammer at all, since his computer isn't actually involved in emailing the spam. _________________ Frank Nordberg

also, the computers affected by viruses like that normally run Bill's very own op-sys. So maybe Bill could reduce the spam after all. However this would require developing a quality windows without horde bugs and that's not very likely to happen, at least not in Microsoft. But it could happen in some science fiction novel
If Gates really manages to pull through his email stamps plan, it will just put more money in his pocket, which will be taken out of pockets of legitimate marketers. |

Reneton, just curious, but what OS are you running? And what do you use for email and office stuff (documents and spreadsheets and such)? _________________ Eric D. Burdo

just to make you happy, I am using win xp at the moment, however I intend to learn how to install and administer linux(I know how to use linux, but that's not enough to administer it). Since, many applications are still Windows only and websites need to be tested on IE too, I can't completely stop using Windows.
For email I mostly use webmail, occaisonally Netscape Mail or Mozilla Mail, for office stuff I use OpenOffice, for webbrowsing Mozilla Firefox.

I'm being approached by advertisers keen to advertise in my newsletter, some wanting to book for months ahead, so from my perspective there's still money in the list.
True, newsletter publishers are competing against alot of spam and many newsletters probably aren't even seen by subscribers because of spam filters, but the game is't over yet - if you publish something people find interesting and useful. _________________ Allan Gardyne

I dislike some aspects of Microsoft, but they have brought the PC to just about every home in the US. So I can't complain to much. Until Linux gets to the point where my grandmother can use it, I don't think it will become mainstream.

Money is definitely still in the list.
We send our newsletter to members out on Friday afternoon, always a big revenue surge the next couple days.

It depends on the quality of your subscribers and how are they
responsive to your offers.
Its a sad news for most of us that our newsletters are not getting in
to subscribers inbox due to spam filters. Even legitimate emails can
get filtered.
I would say that money is still on the list provided that you have
established a very good and harmonious relationship with your
subscribers.

Absolutely there's still money in the list. Things are more difficult, but there's still profit. It's all about the relationship you have with your subscribers.... and most subscribers don't mind advertisements in a newsletter as long as the content is good. Readers realize it's a business, and there's a cost involved in sending the newsletter.
Here's a nugget, write it down and repeat it to yourself three times a day...
The real money however is when you make the ad part of the actual content of your newsletter.
I'd venture to say there's still actually more money in newsletters than in web traffic for most affiliates. _________________ JP Sauve
