Hi,

I hope this is the right place to ask this.

I have an opportunity to buy a program/service, but since I'm currently back in grad school, I would probably want to market it by affiliates (yes, I'm being vague - I can give more details, but don't want to break the advertising rules... though it doesn't exist yet, so I guess it's hard to advertise for ;> )

I'm hoping to ask other webmasters who run affilate programs sucessfully how much time it takes to manage - I'm not looking for easy, instant wealth ;> - but I also know that if I don't have the time to run it that it needs, I should probably pass on the opportunity rather than invest the money, but not the time.

So - can people give me a rough idea for the time involved to run a good program? I know I not only need to get affilates, but keep them happy - probably do bonus programs, make sure checks get out on time, clear up any difficulties, etc.

And I'm sure I'm missing things that need to be done too!

Another option I suppose would be an affilate program manager - thoughts/opinions on how that works? Or how one finds such a person and to evaluate their abilities?

Thanks,

Corie

I don't run an affiliate program, but I've joined a large number of them.

Judging by the contact I have with affiliate managers, I'd say you can spend as little or as much time as you want.

I've joined programs which never contact me, never send me newsletters or updates, never offer any sort of training at all. I've joined other programs which swamp with me emails just about every day. The choice is yours. At the very least, I suggest you have a very thorough FAQ on your site.

There are a number of companies and individuals who manage affiliate programs. You should be able to find them in search engines.
