I am thinking about building a site around the keyword "internet business".
Should I go for a tighter niche than this? |

"Internet Business" is a strong keyword
lets suppose you build a site with this keyword & as a visitor I typed it on Google so whats the guarantee to display the site on 1 page? because there are many sites whose using this keyword & putting their best SEO efforts,they have a good PR as well, only keyword would not work to display your site link on the first page.

Go for a tighter niche. On this phrase there is far to much competition for you to rank well.
Think about being the only player in a sub-niche instead of just another player in the already competitive internet business arena.

I think you should dig a little deeper. If you know about internet business then you know there are lots of smaller "sub topics" you can divide internet business into:
affiliate marketing
- clickbank
- amazon affiliate
niche marketing
search engine optimization
selling on ebay
auction sites
selling your own product
e-commerce/owning your own store
web hosting
building wordpress sites
website flipping
email marketing
local marketing
facebook marketing
etc.
Instead of going broad and thinning your efforts on "internet business" try one of the subtopics where you can really focus - these are all still very large but much more focused.

Internet buisness is way to competitive..Do a search on Google and I will bet you my dollar to your dime it is the millions of competition..
Here what you need to do..
If you have the money go purchase a software package like Market Samauri...
If not, go to Google Free Keyword tool..
look for keywords that have 20-50 searches per day..
enter the keyword into Google..Now here here is the kicker..put quotation mark around the keyword to get a better view of competition..
Look for keywords that have no more than 150,000 competition...
That's a start..Hope that help..
