JScott,

Since you like the thinking process... I do too.

Ask yourself this question?

How much money and time will you have to invest to make $15 per day in a brick and mortar?
How much time and money will you need to invest to create $15 per day in affiliate income.

Now... take your answer and multiply by 50.

Affiliate WINS....

Hello folks.

Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but wouldn't starting a business " such as tigerdirect" be just a little outside of the financial means of perhaps 99.9999% of most folks?

The problem is, the very absence of barriers to entry causes problems of a different kind. Even the techie aspects can be ignored to a large degree now.

Anyone can have a go, but many will only succeed in creating competition for everyone.

Plus a good affiliate program. Wink

Another advantage of being an affiliate, important to me, is that you do it from almost anywhere. You can follow the climate, if that's what you wish.

Why is this specific to affiliate programs? Surely many services, digital publishing and writing or speaking based jobs could be done with a laptop on the move.

If you're not manufacturing something or reporting (physically) to someone, can't most net businesses be run from anywhere.

Maybe the ability to network with out face-to-face contact is the deciding factor above all else.

Tigerdirect demands customer interaction and employee interaction.

I think that for most people, support and employee handling are much bigger challenges than product creation.

They certainly would be for me, so I've made a conscious effort to steer clear. (Yes I could "outsource", but losing control isn't my style.) This is not to say I don't plan more of my own digital products in the future.

Cheers,
Charlie.

Charlie,

Good points.

Most of us do not hold all the necessary qualities to manage a brick and mortar business. Managing cashflow, securing financing, inventory, employees, gov't regulations, etc.

The advantage to the affiliate model is leverage. I would highly recommend that any of you looking at this business OR any business pick up the book "The E-Myth Revised". For me... it has been a business changing book.

All the Best,

Ahh the barrier thing again Wink

Okay, the smaller the barrier the more are able to come in (within limits), and yes, I guess that does mean more competition. But often the mantra is "competition is good", I can't think of a reason to argue with that.

Naturally I would not be upset if I did not have any competition Smile

If your point is that with relatively easy entry you will have a lot of low grade competition, are they a threat?

All the best,
Larry Chamberlain.
