Post subject: Popularity of keywords
|
|
|
I'm working through Ken Evoy's 5 day Affilite Master E-mail Course. I'm building keywords using using Overture and creating my demand/supply master keyword list.
After searching keywords on Overture. I tried the same keywords on 7search and got very different results. Overture might have a high demand for a word that 7search shows no demand.
With this degree of variance, how can I know I'm choosing quality keywords to begin with?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Just like Harith said, use wordtracker. I read a post on another board where a guy optimized his pages for keywords he got off of the Overture suggestion tool, which said there was a good demand for the keyword. So he gets his site up and receives barely no hits, (note he knew what he was doing too). Checks the keywords at wordtracker, and sees they get virtually no traffic.
Lesson: Overture is kinda unreliable, use wordtrackers free trial service.

Thanks GuitarZan,
I appreciate it.
Do you know how long Wordtrackers free trial is? _________________ Want to learn how to fish?

The wordtracker trial is always free. As for Overture results, they only track searches on Overture; 7Search only tracks searches on 7Search. Since 7Search most likely has fewer users than Overture, naturally the results for a particular keyword would be lower.
As for the Overture vs Wordtracker example given earlier, that may have occured because the free version of Wordtracker only shows Alta Vista results.

Also, there may have been good demand for those keywords, but there was probably a large supply of sites using these keywords as well. Wordtracker will help you measure this, enabling you to weed out those unprofitable keywords.

I poked around a bit at WordTracker. You can purchase a days use for less than $7.00 which is nto bad.
Just pick a day when you can spend several hours working on keywords. Maybe even for different projects, and then spend the $7. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Thanks for the feedback,
I never realized that Wordtracker could be used for only $7.00 a day or that it only searched AltaVista!!
How does Wordtracker compare to SBI's keyword search?
Does anyone know how many Search Engines SBI checks when formulating the master keyword list?
Thank you again everyone! _________________ Want to learn how to fish?

Just to clarify, the Wordtracker free trial only surveys Alta Vista. The paid version surveys several search engines, including Google, MSN, and others. It also shows results from several of the pay per click search engines, i.e. number of searches, amount being bid, etc. The paid version is full of information. I definitely recommend trying it for one day.

| Oh, just to add, I think it is as good as SBI's tool, as I have used both and the results were pretty much the same, and, Wordtracker returns its results much quicker than SBI. I did my first session on SBI the other night and it took over an hour to return these results! Wordtracker returned the same results in under 30 seconds. |

Post subject: SBI! Manager - a second opinion?
|
|
|
Hello Scott.
As far as I understand it, SBI!'s Manager uses Overture to generate it's "demand" figure, and AltaVista for it's "supply".
A couple of problems can arise...
Firstly, Overture's MatchDriver pools a number of less common terms with the generic (making it seem more popular than it really is). Wordtracker does indeed provide a second opinion. Although not perfect, it does at least list terms individually.
(Incidentally, ignoring the influence of MatchDriver, the figure returned by Overture's suggestion tool for one month roughly corresponds to the total for all the SEs for one day. A handy ratio, if it still holds true.)
Secondly, AltaVista does not list anywhere near as many search results (supply) for many search terms as "King" Google does, so a cross-check here is always advisable. At least AltaVista is NOT case-sensitive anymore, though until recently it was (and Google wasn't).
Nothing in life is simple, and a little knowledge is a dangerous thing when it comes to the ever-changing world of SEO! If you're getting addicted, take a look at Planet Ocean.
Hope this helps,
Charlie. |

You have to realize that each PPC will be different. Overture and Google are the big guys but there are many smaller PPC's that are also effecient and effective in returning a greater ROI. I think that many people make the mistake of putting all of there money in one place. Myself, I have distributed my money in the big guys and a couple of the smaller PPC's as well. What you have to do is take each one individually and work from there. The smaller PPC's will be on a more personal basis with you and will usually help you decide on selecting your keywords to help gain exposure for your site. Research it and ask questions, make sure the ppc is offering quality traffic. Check out sites like genieknow.com (just launched a ppc but it is proving to be effective), 7search, sprinks.
You get the idea.
