Post subject: Domain name almost identical to adult e-zine!
|
|
|
Many of you have said you thought I chose a great domain name. But when I did a search for it on Google to check whether I was listed yet or not, all it returned was links to an ADULT magazine! Apparently there has been a very successgul adult magazine called fantasyireland.org for a while now.
I am really worried my domain will be associated with this type of content and will really hurt my chances of success!
Not only is it completely different than the meaning of the word "fantasy" on my site, but this site has apparently optimized itself so well, it completely dominates the search results. Anyone looking for what I have to offer won't even find me because they'll be bombarded with search results from this other site!
Am I just freaking out over nothing or have I made a really big mistake????
PLEASE advise...
Thanks!

Hi Debbi,
Personally I don't think you have anything to worry about. You built a great site and people searching for all the keyword phrases you have content for and continue to build content for shows clearly that you offer quality information on Ireland.
This was one of the reasons that I had started the following thread because of that kind of stuff coming up instead of quality sites like yours.
http://www.associateprograms.com/discus/viewtopic.php?t=3156
Consider some of the thoughts and suggestions in my thread and keep building quality content and you'll beat them to the top 10.
All the best

Debbi,
I don't think you should be TOO concerned: People find you by search engines and quality links.
However, your post reminded me of an unfortunate situation a couple of years ago: We used an XML reader (for a project I helped with) at
***.org (fake)
But many of the project participants thought it was
***.com (fake)
Since it starts with an 'x' you can imagine what kind of site it is.
However, since the content of the two sites was so totally different, it wasn't a big problem.
But you get the point. But as I see it, YOU have the .COM domain name; .org is much less likely to be associated with your site. Just keep on building (and write ebooks now and then to supplement your content).
However, since the content of the two sites was so totally different, I can't think it should be a problem.
But I see your point: A little itchy feeling..

Itchy! What a great choice of words!
Thanks, guys...I'll try not to be too worried. I am trying REALLY HARD to build original content about Ireland, with a unique theme. I just hope and pray it's what the people want...
I know there's plenty that want to scratch that other itch! Just look at Wordtracker's top search terms!
Anyway, I'll keep plugging away, and thanks again for helping to calm my momentary paranoia!

Debbi,
You were looking, weren't you? Even though I told you not to
Actually, I think your theme is great: I have been once to Ireland (Dublin) and enjoyed it very much. I have always wanted to go back, perhaps have more time then just an oval weekend.
That's why I suggested to you writing a few limited, dedicated ebooks on different subjects: Economical ways to explore the country.... What I really ment was this: Save some of your content for those ebooks, and make your site a teaser to buy them. _________________ DatabaseDesigner

I agree Debbi, people search on keyphrases, I doubt many will search on "fantasy" unless they are, in fact, looking for something fantasy related.
Db, I suggest you "de-url" your post or Wally may apply the ruler to you! Just type www domain com and leave out the "." so it won't go url.

Which part should I change? I didn't write the adult site's url as a link. I just put the word fantasy in quotes in the last paragraph. _________________ RIGHT is still RIGHT, even if no-one else is doing it....

Debbi,
I think Debs was referring to DatabaseDesigner's link in his post.

I agree with Debs. The people you're targetting aren't likely to type "fantasy ireland" into a search engine unless they hear about you on the radio or on TV or something and can't remember the domain name.
The people you're targetting are much more likely to be searching for things like "ireland holidays", "celtic weddings", "irish recipes" etc, and I'm sure you've got specific pages designed to attract and inform them.
I wouldn't worry about it at all. _________________ http://www.OneStopUnder.com - serious reading for serious photographers. |
