Google is working to speed up image download times by reducing file sizes.

This is their solution and if they get their way it could be a big deal. Speed is a factor in ranking, but who knows if they will give a boost to the WebP format?

WebPI is a new image file format with loss of Google with a 4-digit extension boring! It will not be the first new image format, the latest success was PNG. It was also JPG 2000 but after the patent GIF submarine in 1995, the worry about potential patent has actually killed
