In 2000, when we moved to France, we started reselling the mail client that we used and were so happy for.
Since then, I've made a habit of checking if some of the product I used and would recommend to others had an affiliate program. Time and time again, they didn't.
That is leaving money on the table. So I wrote this article about how easy it is to get started. Marlon Sanders tells us that having affiliates is responsible for a very large part of his success.

Imagine that you are selling your own product, an e-book or some software; a video course or whatever you want.
Imagine that you have people selling it for you, but you don't even have to pay them a salary.
Of course, they would request a fair share of the sales price, but what would you prefer? 100% of nothing - or 50% of something?
You can easily utilize an army of eager sales people, simply by building an affiliate system.
Several Simple Affiliate Systems
One of the simplest and cheapest ways of having your own army of affiliates, is by installing the Seven Dollar Script available from Jonathan Leger.
You can also purchase an affiliate script that does nothing else but register the sales your affiliates make, and then indicates how much you owe them at the end of the month.
There is also, of course, the big affiliate portals such as ClickBank and PayDotCom, which both take their share of your income.
Personally, I use the Rapid Action Profits script (RAP), which not only gives me the possibility of having affiliates who are paid directly into their PayPal account, but also delivers the electronic products which my clients buy.
Don't Stop at Just the System
Don't get hung up over the system. Choose whatever suits your needs now. You can always switch later.
And don't stop there, either. It's not enough just to get affiliates to sign up. You need to motivate them to sell, and to give them banners and/or text examples that they can use for their own promotions.
With several systems (including RAP), you can offer discount codes. Let your affiliates decide if they want to use such a code or not. Of course, it would mean that their income for each product would fall, but if they sell more at a discounted price, their total earnings might well increase.
Give Your Affiliates Something to Give Away
If you can offer your affiliates a free report, branded with their affiliate code, it will make it easier for them to sell on your behalf.
That would mean some extra initial work for you, unless you use an easy PDF brander to brand on-the-fly. Some software will even enable the affiliate do it personally, so you'll only have to upload the original PDF-file.
You could also produce some videos that they can put on their blogs or homepages. Then they only need to either brand the video themselves with their affiliate link, or they can put the link below the video.
