I am a fairly new webmaster bringing in some extra cash finally. However, I am still unsure on how a search engine indexes a site. I know how to index a site, but after the search engine recognizes your site how long does it take for them to rank it on it optimization.
Does it take weeks, months, or days? |

Yes.  It can be surprisingly fast or surprisingly slow. I've found that adding at least a little bit of content several times a week, and spending time on link exchanges with related (but noncompeting) sites seems to have speeded up my listings considerably.
