Post subject: Selling a website
|
|
|
Does anyone have any experience of web selling? I am thinking of selling one of my sites because I am really bored with it. I got a free appraisal which was quite encouraging. However the appraiser was marketing his book on selling websites so his opinion is hardly unbiased! _________________ How to sleep well every night |

I would try one of the auction places for websites in particular. There are a couple out there that have a good amount of traffic I just can't remember their name.
You can also try eBay and similar sites as well.
Just remember to keep a reserve minimum that you want the site to sell for, that way if the bids don't reach that amount you won't have to sell.

If you are serious about any...PM me and we will discuss it further. _________________ http://www.iclickshop.com

Hi Liz,
Build a page with the right keyword phrases on the site that you are thinking of selling.
Be very creative in introducing your idea of selling your site. Since, you already worked very hard to build the site and traffic on that niche your right in your target market of people who just might be interested.
I come across lots of profitable keyword phrases all the time regarding buying and selling of all types of businesses.
Who knows. It might become a new niche idea for you.
Remember, you have SBI to help you sell your site and SBI "the concept" to sell.
Just my thoughts
All the best

Sorry, but I am interested only in quality sites with quality content. The sites may or may not be attracting a lot of traffic, but should have unique high quality content(which is hard to develop)!
Thanks for your offer Messy. |

I don't know who you received an appraisal from... but be careful.
Based off my experience with "domain name appraisals" they are often no better than a random number.
I saw someone trying to sell a domain appraised at over $60,000. The domain? pyro-core.net. Net? Dash? And what the heck does pyro core even mean?
I don't want to be a down note, but just realize that an appraisal doesn't always necessarily give you a good idea on what your site is actually worth. _________________ Low Cost, High Quality Hosting -- free urchin stats, mini-sites available

The site I want to sell is The Chronic Pain Haven.
I know what you mean about the appraisal and it was simply a quick free one. The price was nowhere near that $60,000 -I wish! It was based on the fact that it is a developed site with good content and ranking and in top 1% at Alexa. Not on its domain name. Also has paid for listing in Yahoo and a couple of others. (Not that Alexa rankings impress me.) I won't sell if the price isn't good as I can do other things with it. _________________ How to sleep well every night |

I think most people buying a website as a going concern would base their offer price on a certain multiple of annual net earnings - which they would probably ask to have audited by a third party.
They'd then factor in "undeveloped potential" and other market information they had to come up with a final offer.
In these downbeat times, I wouldn't look at selling websites as a goldmine, but rather a way of prioritising time if you are trying to do everything yourself.
At the cheaper end of the range, much will come down to the enthusiasm of the relevant parties for the site theme.
All the best,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
