Post subject: question about multi-sites
|

Hi,
This is my first post to this great board. I have read alot here but need
some help. I need to work from home. I know everybody wants too!
But I have too. In the last month my family has been served a double
whammy,my three year old son has Autism and my 1 year old daughter
has Ceberal Palsy and might have Autism as well. So I need to be home
for them. After reading tons of info I have concluded two main things:
If you can afford it Site-Build It is the way to go and also to make decent
money you need a few sites. I will invest in Site-Build It but I also want to
build a few more sites. Can anyone refer me to a place that has cheap
hosting that can support many domains but also includes a site builder
that is easy to use for a newbie? |

You may or may not need multiple sites in my opinion.
If you are going for a very targeted market...multiple sites each with a different target market may be the way to go.
If you have a very broad, mass appeal product..one site should be fine.
I debated the one site/multiple sites many times...finally decided on one site, and as far as my products..believe that was the right decision. |

I would go for multi-sites. I myself 3-4 sites right now. And I intend to grow that number to 20++ by year end. How I do it ... I have a reseller account. But that is not very economical right now.
However, I would recommend ... if you have more than 5 websites, getting a hosting with multiple sites capabilities. One that I know is JROX. They have a package where you can have 5 sites in one account each with its own domain name.
If you have more than 5 sites, getting a reseller account would be more economical. I think if you have more than 50 sites, especially if you have some that is very successful and getting a lot of traffic, you might want to go with your own dedicated server.
But for a start, I recommend JROX. _________________ Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino

Check out the Web Hosting forum if you want hosting for multiple sites. 1and1.com has some great deals. Cheaper than JROX too. (Although JROX has some good packages).
I would go with multiple sites just because that means multiple income streams.
But as for the hosting, do a search, and read the Web Hosting forum. Your question has already been answered in detail there. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I also recommend 1and1. By following the hosting threads I got in on a great free promotion. Unfortunately, that promotion is over but I have found all their services great including customer service. Domains at .49 cents a month. All kinds of packages that you can host lots of domains through one hosting package.
Their control panel is a little slow but everything else makes up for it.
SBI is an incredible set of tools to help you learn and get quickly started at least for your first site.
If your seriously planning multiple sites then you should really consider following an expert on the subject like James Martell who has been very successful with his growing portfolio of web real estate.
I am sorry to hear about all the health problems in your family and I hope everything improves for you.
There is lots of great help and ideas throughout Allan's site to help you succeed. Choose the best quality system that you feel comfortable with.
All the best

1and1 has a couple of different control panels. The free account (no long available) is slow. But I have heard that the paid accounts are much better supportwise and speedwise (for the control panel).
The actual hosting speed is excellent. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I have my sites hosted with dr2.net, and they've been great. I think they're around $40/yr for the basic hosting plan, but that gives you unlimited subdomains, email addresses, SQL databases, addon domains, etc. Great deal.
By the way, my two-year-old daughter has Down syndrome, so I know a little of what you're going through. I hope this affiliate thing works well enough to allow you to stay home. _________________ http://www.OneStopUnder.com - serious reading for serious photographers. |

Hi Kev,
Sorry to read about your situation, I wish you strength.
I don't see the main issue as whether to have multiple sites, or use SBI, or that sort of thing. You say that you have read "tons of info" and I'm sure that you have, but are you aware that income from Internet marketing may not come in all that quickly?
I honestly don't want to be negative, and of course I cannot say what I would do in your situation I can only sympathize not empathize. I'm certain that you fully realize that there is no 'get rich quick', I'm just trying to get across that whichever way you chose to run your web business at first you will see money going out faster than it is coming in.
There is a long thread (maybe more than one) on this board about the pros and cons of giving up full time work, do a search and I'm sure that you will find it.
Once again I'm not trying to be negative, just cautionary, I know that everyone on this board wishes you success.
All the best,

Thanks everyone for the advice. I did try looking at the hosting thread
but could not find anything were hosting with a website builder combined
was talked about. I have looked into 1and1 and yes they are good.
The draw back is that you can only use the website creator for one site.
So I guess they could get expensive if you have to pay for each site
seperate. Does anyone know anywhere else you can make manysites
under one plan with builder? Thanks again everyone. |

Hi Kev,
I just did a quick google search for website builders. There are many different keyword phrases to find lots of them. Also, free ones but check them out and see if they meet your needs.
Also, keep your mind on how will you get the traffic to your site. That is where all the SBI tools simplify everything for you even if you just use it for your first site to build and learn from.
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=website+builders
Just my thoughts
All the best
