Hi siggitor1, Welcome!
I like the tidy layout of your site and love the cute puppy photos.
I think you've been far too heavy handed with banner ads on the main page. Too many ads are likely to scare away not only your visitors, but also scare away potential link partners who are looking for high quality sites.
Adding more keyword-rich words to the main page while drastically reducing the number of banner ads would help the search engines figure out the topic of the page.
I spotted an ad for LinkShare - on a page about dogs and an ad for pianists on a page about dog health. You're barking up the wrong tree there. You'll get better results if your ads match the theme of your site.
I found the teal-colored words difficult to read. Publishers of magazines, newspapers and books use black type on a white background for a very good reason - because it's easy to read. They're giving you an important lesson. Don't make things difficult for your visitors.
Perhaps someone else will give you tips on how to write headlines that tempt readers to read articles. You need to think about that, too. _________________ Allan Gardyne

It's clean. I don't know how fast it will load for people on Phones/G3 or people with dial up... yes they are still out there. I agree with Allan it's a bit heavy on ads and they seem to be inconsistent.
You could also make a little better use of text and meta tags.
But overall I could see this with a little push generating some income. Pets is an extremely saturated niche however so you'll need to devise a strategy for getting it in front of people. _________________
