Last night I decided to do a little experiment before I hit the bed. I found the most popular newsgroup in my niche and posted 5 posts with my url in my signature.

So, I woke up this morning with 81 unique visitors in the 6 hours that I slept and pulled in more money via adsense than I did in the past week. This is what you called targeted traffic and they were clicking away on my ads. Very Happy

So just a tip for you guys needing targeted traffic. Get your butts in the newsgroups! And post legit posts...dont just spam your site. Hell, Im not even listen in any search engines yet.

Me = Happy. Wink

StrayPixel,

How about providing some guidelines to where to find the groups, for the uninitiated?

Not a problem. Smile

This is exactly what I did. Very simple.

I fired up outlook express and connected to my isp's newserver. (You will need to find out what your isp's server is.) It was really as easy as typing "golf" in the search field. I sifted through a few crappy groups which were nothing but spam. Eventually I found a very active and spam free group.

All I did was start posting worthwhile messages and actively participating in the discussions while attatching my url and a brief description at the end of each post. This has been driving traffic like mad to my site. (well, 80 visitors in 6 hours is "like mad" for a guy who isnt listed in any SE's yet.)

Adsense click throughs are at a crazy rate since these people are coming to my site knowing *exactly* what to expects. (lets just say I have increased my click through rate by 5 times without giving any specifics.)

So it is pretty simple. Fire up your newsreader, search for topics in your niche, and get involved. It took me all of >10 minutes to get those people to my site with very little effort.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. BTW, I almost have to thank you for getting me involved with everything. You were the first person to respond to one of my posts with advice. Very Happy

StrayPixel, I am glad to have helped in some small way. And thank you for providing clarification on using newsgroups. A lot of people don't realize just how powerful this resource can be when used properly.

Remember everyone, don't spam. Offer sound help, as you have here, have a nice sig file (not spammy or hyped), and get involved. 10 minutes a day can work wonders!

There's an amazing variety of them.

Just a warning. MAKE SURE you find out the groups policy on advertising your site. Someone from one of the groups that I posted at sent a spam report to my ISP's abuse department because I created a new topic about my website!

I did not SPAM my site but was actually looking for legit feedback on anything that could be changed, or what they liked about it since there was an active interest in my site. Apparently (and obviously, now that I think about it) this is a HUGE no no.

So fair warning. Whatever you do, never created a topic about your site. It still would have been nice for him to send me an email as opposed to filing a complaint to my ISP's abuse department about me.... Rolling Eyes

Lets hope I have internet access tomorrow!

Most forums will let you put a link to your site in your signature. It is always a good idea to read the forum for a bit before posting though, find out what the specific culture is in the forum, then join in.

Maybe they found this thread Very Happy

As Debs said, so many Newsgroups are full of spam. This is what causes the ones without spam to be extremely aggressive in dealing with it. Some people have been using Newsgroups for over 10 years so they are very protective.

Cheers

Yahoo groups is also a good one to search.

You can also do a search on google for "your topic" and "forum" or "message board"

I absolutely agree that newsgroups and forums can help trememdously in getting traffic. If you have useful information to offer people will check you out.

In fact, I just posted an article that sort of coincides with this post. Check it out above this post.

[Trent, your other post breached the Board guidelines - it is now in the Blatant Ad section:

I also edited your sig file to just your home URL.
