Post subject: having a difficult time getting web traffic for new site
|
|

I am new to affiliate marketing. I'm a web programmer by trade so I've been doing a lot of research on datafeeds. I just got done creating a website by utilizing my first datafeed. The technical part is what I'm familiar with, but I know I need assistance on the marketing part of things.I'm trying to figure out the most effective means of advertising I must implement in order to try to get website traffic. First I'd like to start out the cheaper way. But of course I'd
like to find out the more expensive ways like PPC and other stuff like that. I've posted in forums and have answered questions relevant to my topic on yahoo answers. I've also submitted a couple articles relevant to my website on such websites as bestezines.com and ideamarketers.com to name a few. Can anyone point me in the right direction to go about bringing traffic to my website. I thank all in advance for any advice or resources you give to me. Thanks,
Brandon Drake

While "going through the motions" is a necessary evil; marketing is all about your customer and how you can solve their problems.
I read over and over postings by people who don't understand that the process is not about the process it's about getting your offer in front of your target audience and providing a solution to their wants and needs.
Traffic does NOT equal conversion. _________________

You can have a directory submission of your site. Don't stop writing articles and submit them to article directories. In this way, you can expose your message into a wider scope. _________________ RUSH Delivery Within 24-48 Hours!

In a wide market like that you should be able to get a lot of traffic from PPC. It's going to be quite expensive though, so you need to set your budget and be very diligent in measuring your ROI.
As for getting traffic the "free" way there's a ton of different strategies. I would suggest you download Allan's ebook (link down on the right) 77 Ways to get free traffic. There's enough in there to keep you very busy. |

Create a backlink web around your site. Use free properties. Easy and free way, use Alexa movers and Shakers to find new properties that are moving up in popularity and then join the conversation. Don't spam though.
Free sites, create a review on all different text and use video and pictures on each property. give away free content and link back to your main site.
Weebly
Squidoo
Articles 100 articles
Hubpages
Blogger
Wordpress
Twitter
Social Bookmark your site and each of the above properties.
Mixx
Propeller
Digg
Stumblupon
Use Facebook and Myspace to interact with groups within your niche market.
Youtube- video reviews of your site and affiliate products.
Just to name a few.
Learn how to use Google insight for search and spyfu and compete.
Are you targeting the right long tailed keywords and modifiers. It's not how much traffic, but how it converts.
Are you selling in your articles, when you should be giving away free content.
Put together a free PDF report and add it to scribd and use your article bio box to get people to download your report. you need people to know you
last take action
Hope this helps

If your building a site with datafeeds I'd have to ask what your doing to make your site unique and different that all the others? You can drive traffic there all day long but if your not providing something extra over all the other datafeed build site you'll have a hard time converting the traffic.
Beside that you do need to keep promoting your site. Build a marketing plan and follow it. _________________ Make Money Without Getting Out Of Your Lounge Pants!

There are lots of ways to drive traffic to a website - and some of the most effective (and free) ways are article marketing, blogging, forums etc.
But you need to be doing these things on a regular basis - preferably daily. So, if time is short, you need to pick a few you feel comfortable with and focus on these.

Hi Brandon,
If you're using nothing but affiliate datafeeds you need to find a way to add some content to your site. Without solid content you'll have a very difficult time ranking highly in the search engines...and SE traffic is free.
Since you're new to affiliate marketing I'd be wary of Pay Per Click. There's a steep learning curve with PPC and you can lose a lot of money.
As far as free methods are concerned, directory submission is nice for getting some easy links but you're not going to see any traffic from them.
Yahoo Answers is a great choice because I find the traffic tends to convert well (depends on the niche I guess) because these are people who are actively looking for a solution to a problem. All you have to do is point them in the right direction.
Article marketing is another free option that can have a big impact. Target some long tail keywords and identify with whatever problem the reader is facing, then offer your site as a solution.
You should also start a blog where you can redirect traffic to your affiliate offerings. And set up some Hubpages, Squidoo lenses, etc. targeting your keywords and funnel that traffic to your main site too.
All of these options are completely free but they do require some elbow grease.
Good luck!

It's important to develop a marketing plan and then stick to it. Here are some of the things you can do:
Write one or two articles every week and submit them to 5 or 6 article directories.Make sure that http://www.ezinearticles.com is on the list.
Write 2 or 3 short blog posts each week.
Posting in forums such as you're doing here can be very helpful.Find several forums that involve your your marketing area and post in them every day.
Also find some blog sites that are in your area of interst and post comments on them.
Use social bookmarking tools such as OnlyWire to bookmark each of your blog posts after you have made them.
These are just a few ideas which are free and if you do them regularly and consistantly you will see you traffic grow.

It sounds like you are off on the right track.
Just keep doing what you are doing, but a lot of it. Read through previous replies of this post as well as others and apply what you learn.
Most importantly is to keep at it. Traffic will not come instantly through free or cheap methods, but it will come in time. Just be consistent and offer quality content.
Good Luck,

I'm new as well...my site has been up for about a month. I try to write posts several times a week with relevant content to what I'm trying to advertise. I exchange links every day and I try to optimize each page and post on my site to maximize the free traffic from the search engines.
I haven't earned a commission yet, but I can't wait to see how long it takes to get that first one. _________________ My Pillow Place | Floor Pillows | BeanBags
