I currently have no links to or from my site except for my affiliate programs from my site. I would like to know if i need to start link exchanging with other websites.
Does this really generate any traffic? (i hardly ever click on someone's link page)
How long do you have to keep that other person's link on your website, and how long do they keep yours?
I have had someone e-mail me about exchanging links and i am not sure how to respond. His site is a pg rank of 2 and mine is 0. His link page is only rated 0 (according to google toolbar). Is this a good move for me? thank you.

Link exchanges are not as effective as they used to be.
I suggest you concentrate on one way links.
Article marketing is a good way to go about this. then there is social bookmarking sites and also directory submission. Free directory submitter may be useful for this. check it out
But if you want to pursue the link exchange thing then I suppose the link is permanent. If you take their link on your webpage down, they''l take your link on their page down

i think i agree with you on the link exchange. it hasn't appealed to me from the beginning. i had no clue about the directories so that greatly helps. thank you very much for your help. I need all that i can get.

Having links from articles directories can really boost you site's rankings.
This is done by writing your articles about your site (what you are promoting and selling) etc. and then submit them. This can give you long term link rather than convincing someone to have links to you.
You can also make a lens at squidoo about yourself and your product and make huba at hubpages.com. These articles can be permanent becasue you have full control over them.

I think that getting articles out there about your product/site/service is defaintely good as it also offers much more chance for keyword rich links rather than just having your domain name in the anchor text.
However I think article sites exist which are not google friendly so do some research first to save possible time wasting  |

| Dont focus to much on link exchange rather focus how to promote your product through advertising,blogging,forum etc, it gives you good traffic and sales |

According with the Search Engine Marketing reasoning that more links mean higher ranking by search engines, such practices as link exchange have become more popular.
