Hi all,
Can anyone tell me of any free (without trial periods) HTML editors, I am using Kompozer but looking out for something perhaps a bit better.
I am still on a bottom of the barrel budget.

The 'free-est' is the one on your computer: notepad for a PC, I don't know for the Mac.
Google should give you a lot of results. PSPad and Notepad++ are two, the latter from SourceForge, I think, and quite popular. There's no shortage, some very basic, others pretty sophisticated.
Hope you've solved your problem before now; I just answered you because I saw that your post was old and no one had answered you. _________________ Jo

Hi
There's a free trial of Microsoft Expression Web 2
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/overview.aspx?key=web
I use this a lot and it's very user friendly. Much like Dreamweaver but I find it easier to understand and use.
I also use Kompozer and it is great - probably the best free editor available.
Good Luck!

True i did miss his comment on komposer, yet I took the time to respond with legitimate input vs sarcasm. _________________ eCoverSource.com: eCover and Minisite design, re-branding of PLR products,Kunaki design, etc.

Since you're using Komposer, you probably know about NVU.
Open Office has an integrated web editor...but I wouldn't say it's any better...I guess it depends on your preference.
An advanced one that I like is called HTML Kit. _________________ Charles Amith

Try to use Adobe Dreamweaver. it is a nice tool for creating webpages. |

One problem with the OP's question is there is no mention of platform (Kompozer runs on several). Also not sure if the WYSIWYG aspect is more important than a straight html editing tool with code help and so forth.
Never used Mac so I can't recommend anything for that platform.
Windows:
Notepad++ is an excellent html editing tool with very good code help. No WYSIWYG.
If I feel I have to have/use a WYSIWYG feature I fire up Dreamweaver (NOT free so doesn't meet OPs requirements). I just haven't found a free Windows option that has the nice balance of WYSIWYG and coding tools the way Dreamweaver does.
Debian/Ubuntu Linux:
For raw coding you don't need much more than gedit it has html code help built in.
Quanta+ is has a pretty good WYSIWYG/text editing combination for this platform. _________________ MyMoneyMess.com Practical solutions to financial problems. |

| An HTML editor is a software application for creating web pages. Although the HTML markup of a web page can be written with any text editor, specialized HTML editors can offer convenience and added functionality. For example, many HTML editors work not only with HTML, but also with related technologies such as CSS, XML and JavaScript or ECMAScript. In some cases they also manage communication with remote web servers via FTP and WebDAV, and version management systems such as CVS or Subversion. |
