What sort of relationship do you have with your affiliate company reps? How accessible are these people to you and do you guys work with the companies that are bad about returning phone calls and emails?
I often feel that if I told these people about ALL of my websites and search marketing that I'd get better service from the companies that pretty much blow me off. I feel like the reps provide service to people who they think have the potential to make them lots of money and if they think you're a webmaster with one or two sites that they blow you off.
If that attitude is not just a preconceived notion that's all in my head, those reps are really missing the boat. New webmasters become old webmasters. Two sites can become a dozen sites and with time serious webmasters who build a few sites become webmasters who start search marketing.
I've been doing this for 3 years. I'm still wet behind the ears and have a lot to learn but I'm doing what I have to do and I'm making more money than I ever have.
Reps that blow me off get blown off. |

| I guess maybe that was a rant. I'm feeling a little frustrated with a few of these companies. |

I've had help that ranges from superb to useless.
At a conference, I once met a newly appointed affiliate manager who had never been an affiliate. I've even read an ebook written by an affiliate manager who had never been an affiliate!

Unfortunately, I think this is inevitable. An affiliate manager has only so many hours in a day, and if they're being paid performance bonuses, they'll naturally spend their time where they achieve the best results - just as affiliates spend their time concentrating on the programs which produce the best results.
Imagine it from an affiliate manager's point of view... In a perfect world, you'd have all the time in the world to teach newbies how to place a link on a page, etc. But the affiliate manager knows that time spent helping a top performing affiliate increase his sales by 10% is going to produce a lot more sales than helping a newcomer jump from 2 sales to 3.
So the tough rule of life for affiliates seems to be... Make sales, then ask for help. Or at least, that's the way it seems to be with some affiliate programs.
Your other choice is to move on and promote a product where you DO get good help right from start.
What sort of help are you trying to get? _________________ Allan Gardyne

Keep in mind that many of them are on some kind of incentive. They are also just desk jockeys. Most have never had, and never could, run their own business. They are 8-5ers. So they look for what they think will make them the most money. Most have no clue what Affiliate Marketing is really like from a Publishers Perspective.
Given that, you know what you are up against.
I've been blown off by plenty of Desk Jockeys. And from good and bad companies.
I usually go direct to the Affiliate Advertiser before I ask to join. Then they can go to bat from you from their end. Who has time to list everything they own just to promote one or two offers.
But that's the business. _________________

My business relationships are pretty good with my reps.
Being fairly new, I don't really have much to say. So far, it has been real good with them. |
