I built my companies site about 2 months ago. We are a screen printing and embroidery company and our website is www.carouselofstitches.com
In those two months I have had a reasonable amount of traffic which is very targeted. (I know this due to where the links are coming from) The problem is, while many people are visiting, few are requesting information, calling or buying.
Currenltly we are not selling products that can be paid for over the internet, that will change shortly. But with an industry where most products are customized, I need help trying to convert visitors into customers.
Any comments on the website or the above issue would be quite helpful. I appreciate the most brutal honesty, so fire away.
I am on a cable modem, and it took a bit of time for your site to load. You may want to have load time checked and graphics optimized.
As a retail site, you need to build credibility. Check into Bizrate, ePublicEye, and BBB to see if they would work for your site. Having a shopping cart and being able to buy online will be a huge confidence builder, and confidence is what your visitors need to have in order to buy.
You could make your free catalog offer more prominent while you are waiting, this should help boost the response rate. Maybe tie the free catalog into your mailing list as well. I did this when I had a retail site and it worked great.
Hope this helps
