Hi
I am thinking of building a new website. Can anyone recommend a good but cheap web host? Also tell me from where I can register a domain name.

Thanks
Niz

For registering a domain name, I am considering namecheap.com or godaddy.com. Which one I should prefer? Any ideas?

I also just checked out geekhosting.com. They are looking really impressive (Just $1.95/month). Shall I sign up with them?

I can't vouch for GeekHost... I have never heard of them before your post. That doesn't mean they are bad though.

I use 1and1 for a hosting provider.

I would host with GoDaddy. They have been around for a LONG time and have excellent customer service.

When it comes to domain registration, I have used BulkRegister.com for years now.

They aren't the cheapest, but they are very reliable. Let's face it, if your DNS isn't in order, it doesn't matter how good your web host is.

GoDaddy is also good. I have a few with them, and their anonymous proxy service is good if privacy is an issue. They are cheaper, at this point in time.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.

We invite you to discuss web hosting on prohostfirm's forum at http://www.prohostfirm.com/forum/ and watch for the announcement section (special offer) because in March we will give free hosting to charity, or educational website or useful cgi php script maker also to those who post the best article on the forum many times.

I use Godaddy and have never had a problem. You will have to wade through all the secondary services they now offer but the service and price is right.

They have some nice free services like masking and domain forwarding.

I know of a way you can get a free domain name and solve your hosting problem or... at least a domain name for even less than the listed price at godaddy. I won't say here because I don't think it's allowed.

Drop me an e-mail if you are interested and I'll explain.

Steve

The consensus among forum members seems to be that if you want to post an affiliate link it's OK to do so in your signature.

I use GoDaddy for domains. For hosting I used to be with Communitech.net, but since they sold out to Interland I am moving over to BlueVirtual.com, run by ex Communitech employees. Their cheapest virtual account option is $9.95.

I've heard that Excel has cheap web builder products. You can either pay month to month or prepay for the entire year. Might be worth checking out.

Here are some companies that are highly recommended:

Arrow Domain Registration - http://www.godaddy.com
- Only $8.95/year for .com domains
Arrow Discount Hosting - http://www.dealhostusa.com
- Only $24/Year for unlimited features and free setup

Regards!

dealhostusa is not unlimited features. It's only 1gb of bandwidth a month and 200 mb webspace. The space is adequate for most sites, but 1gb of bandwidth is not much at all. Especially if you have lots of graphics on your site.

I'm not even sure Stevorion wanted to give an affiliate link.
I for one responded for a similar question some weeks ago (some around here probably remember) with the description of 3 sites - a domain selling one (godaddy), a hosting site and a hosting directory.
None was an affiliate link and it's needless to say it was ridiculous even to think that I would own any of those sites.
At that time opened a thread and answered the question put directly to me in the SiteBuildIt category here, to be in the right category. Shortly my post was moved (without any notice of the reasons) in the "Blatantly promote your non-MLM program here" category.
Basically it appeared that I deliberately posted the message in the “Blatant” category.

It's needless to say, I guess, how you feel when you try to be helpful, spend time to help others and your post is trashed - while others are made to think you're an ultimate spammer.

Gerry,

I don't remember the post you are meaning, but have you seen this thread...

http://www.associateprograms.com/discus/viewtopic.php?t=1307

It outlines Allan and Wally's interpretation of "promotion".

The blatant promotion section is not just a dumping ground. I for one respect people who post there themselves, when appropriate, rather than make Wally move them. (Remember I don't know your case - I'm talking generally.)

That section can serve as a product announcement section. It's not for spam, just for posts who's primary intention is to promote (how ever helpfully), rather than advise.

Wally has to make hard judgements in this grey area.

Cheers,
Charlie.

Yes, I read that thread, with your views and those of the admin’s on promotion.
Indeed, every single link can be seen as promoting something (e.g. a non affiliate link to SiteSell or a simple link to a forum), however if the poster does not benefit from the so called promotion (he does not promote himself or others via affiliate links), I can hardly see why that kind of linking should be banned. The interdiction (either explicit or implicit) to post outside links -with proper description of course-, I think, would make this forum a lot less useful.

I surely agree that people can announce and can promote their products or affiliate links in the blatant promotion section. However I’m still wondering how would that apply to me, since the links I gave were neither to my products, nor were affiliate ones.

But have you checked this (hosting) category a little in depth…
If you do so, you’ll find plenty of affiliate links and clear “product promotions” still in place many months after posted. Just look at these threads -which are not the only ones:

http://www.associateprograms.com/discus/viewtopic.php?t=966
http://www.associateprograms.com/discus/viewtopic.php?t=2810
http://www.associateprograms.com/discus/viewtopic.php?t=547&start=0

Of course it’s not for me to tell how the forum should be moderated, but I did find offending that, while the clearly promotional posts in these threads are entirely ok, my post – without any affiliate links in it and not self promotional- was quickly moved from here and “labeled” blatant –in plain words shameful- promotion. Was there any problem with my post (regarding the language or anything) I think it would have been minimal for the admin to make at least a short comment about why he has moved it and labeled it blatant.

Gerry.
