It seems I spend an enormous amount of time crawling the web and checking out sites that have top PR with similar keywords as mine. One thing I have noticed is "Hey, I've read that before" Many of these sites contents are made up of ARA & Article city articles or they've copied content from an affiliate. Now I don't know if they are making money but they evidently are getting a lot of traffic. And here I am busting my, well you know what, to come up with some original content only to be out ranked by some cracker who has copied and pasted his or her way into top ranking.

It isn't the duplicate content that got them the ranking, its the backlinks. So get backlinks! Smile

You need a lot of good, quality, on topic, backlinks to rank well with Google. The quality content you write, original, is what will make your visitors happy.

It will also make SE's happy ... those sites may have high PR, they may have high traffic, but I will bet it isn't the duplicate content that is drawing it. Duplicate content is, again, something you add to flesh out areas of your site for your visitors, not for rankings for the most part, IMO.

Yeah, the high Google rankings will get people to their site, but the cut-n-paste content is not likely to convert visitors to buyers as well as your own carefully-written custom content will.

I know this, because I've got my own site based on ARA and Article City content. I used the free-reprint articles to jump-start the site, but haven't had any affiliate sales yet (just Adsense clicks). I'm planning to start writing my own articles targetted to specific popular searches and specific affiliate products soon. I think the combination should work well.
