HI allan, i've noticed that this site has 1 ad unit at middle, i noticed your case studies sites too have same settings. i am a bit confused as google gives tips that you should place ads at end of each article because reader after reading that article would want something more, and may think ads as part of menu.

is this pattern your way of maximixing profits? should i use this in my blogs (not on marketing). any advice will be appreciated.

krish, Please don't assume that the way we use AdSense on AssociatePrograms.com is the most effective way to maximize revenue from AdSense.

One thing that's really important to us is that we're trying to project a professional image. We made a deliberate decision that we didn't want the AdSense ads to be overwhelming or too intrusive, so we use a fairly low-key approach on AssociatePrograms.com. We've actually had a request from AdSense offering to use AssociatePrograms.com as a case study - IF we used more 300x250 AdSense units on the site. We didn't take up the offer.

On AssociatePrograms.com, AdSense isn't our major revenue earner. If AdSense is your main earner, then you'll no doubt want to do things differently. For example, many of our articles end with an affiliate link. In most cases, we'd rather people clicked on that link. We didn't want them to be distracted by an AdSense ad.

On our SBI case study sites, we use AdSense a bit more prominently than do do here, but we're still trying to find a happy medium, somewhere between maximizing revenue and creating a good impression. On some pages, we do use AdSense ads at the bottom of articles, for example here: http://www.cheap-computers-guide.com/backup-software.html

A powerful place to use AdSense ads is at the top left, or near the top left, of a page because that's where the eye naturally goes when we start reading a page. Creating a professional looking page with a 300x250 ad near the top left is something useful to aim for. We didn't do that on AssociatePrograms.com because we thought it would make the AdSense ads too intrusive.

We're in this for the long haul and believe that the over-all, long-term impression you make is more important than earning a few extra dollars today.

The best thing you can do is test and see what works best on your site.

thank you allan for taking out time to post, you are right, this is balancing act rather than putting all hands and feets on many options, thank you again for clearing my confusion.
