Hi all,

Could any of you experienced marketers be
kind enough to advise a newbie ?...

If you were just starting out like myself,
which would you choose to do first, adsense
or affiliate marketing ?

I guess I'm trying to find out which is the
one which will show quicker returns. Wink

Your comments would be appreciated

You can do both. Adsense only brings pennies at a time. If you have affiliate links on your site you can make a $30.00 CPA in one sale. Adsense is easy to start. Just place the code on your site. Then you can focus on placing your affiliate links within your content or placing banners on your site.

Do both. As MarketLeverage says, AdSense is easy - you don't have to achieve a sale before you get paid. All you have to do is get the click.

Building a site purely for AdSense revenue is against the AdSense rules, which is a jolly good reason for using affiliate links as well.

Hi hjm218,

I totally agree with MarketLeverage and Allan Gardyne feedback above that you should go for both.

But there is one more interesting thing that you mentioned on your post...that you are a newbie starting out.

And that bring me to my point.

Both ad sense and affiliate links will only work if you have traffic visiting your website.

The best thing to do for now before you start worrying about how to monetize your traffic is:
to get that traffic in the first place, then worry about money later.

You need to build a lot of websites if you are planning on doing Adsense. Plus, you need to keep your website fresh with lots of content so that the Search Engine will rank your sites higher which is a lot of hardwork. A shortcut of doing it is by creating blog and link farm. However, it will only work in short time so stay away from it. I would also like to add that your income from Adsense is not certain since Google keeps on changing their rules.

I would definitely go for affiliate marketing or creating your own product and sell it immediately.

Totally agree with Inforcom.

The winning formula is:

1) Create a useful site which attracts visitors
2) Monetise your traffic

Not:

1) Create a site and put lots of monetising vehicles on it.
2) Wonder why you're not making any money.

In the second scenario, you're not making any money because you haven't got a useful site which attracts visitors. But you only find that out after you put all the work in, because your work was all based around monetisation and not around attracting visitors - who now won't come because you've got very little to offer them.

Result: Lots of unpaid work.

However, if, as in the first scenario, you work towards creating a site which will attract lots of visitors, then you can monetise that traffic and be paid for all the work that you did.

Cardinal Rule: Traffic first, monetisation after.

Thanks for the replies - they're very
much appreciated. Smile

In regards to adsense, I've come across
instant adsense packages which include
dozens of templates covering many niche
markets - is this a good way to go, or
is it best to build from scratch ?

Thanks again

Hi John, for me purchasing adsense packages shall be no problem as it looks somewhat professional and nice looking. But the main point is your CONTENT. If you have a nice website but the content is crappy, you will see no result.

I have seen a very crappy looking website but have such a high Page Rank. You know why? The content of the website is very helpful and people loves reading it.

Do both!
Yeah I dont think no body will become RICH with adsense, but it adds to your income. A good suitable affiliate program can bring you nice money.

Hi John

My advice for what it is worth is to be very careful with Adsense use it by all means but what ever you do dont build your entire internet business around it, read this thread http://www.associateprograms.com/discus/ftopic19465.html and you will understand why this is so important. With an affiliate business from your point there is very little risk and your business could be built up so that you can offer your own product to other affiliates good luck.

All the best

Ray
