Affiliate marketing can be really hard for some people. I knew because I've been there. It is important to do one marketing at a time. If you're promoting using article, then by all mean do it until you see some result before moving on to the next marketing like Social Bookmarking, Forum Marketing and so on.
Like Allan said, it is not wise for newbies to promote using PPC especially when you are not making any sales from other marketing effort. Do this only when you have achieve the sales you require and make sure you have the budget.
There are many ways people market affiliate product, but most people do it the wrong way. Are you capturing leads with a squeeze page? Are you emailing the list you have - if you don't have a list, this is major problem number one. You need to build a targeted list.
If you are just advertising affiliate links, this is NOT the right way to do it, though that's what most new affiliates do, and that is why they make no money.
