I have always liked to believe that sort of forecast, and actually do. But also you hear so many doom merchants warning of the horrors of affiliate theft and the imminent death of cookie tracking. Someone even quoted in another post that 90% of all affiliate commissions would be lost in one way or another in a few years time.
Putting these two "popular trends" together, is it fair to say that Forrester's definition of "affiliate marketing" (as an industry with a number attached) means the total gross sales by merchants that use an affiliate sales force, as opposed to the total amount paid out in affiliate commissions or even the total amount that should have been paid out in affiliate commissions if the tracking had been effective?
If the second trend proves true, these numbers are likely to be very different, aren't they?
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Don't scare us newbie-affiliates like that, Charlie! You can't be serious! Is this something we really have to worry about?

I guess you've just got to keep it all in perspective. The internet is evolving and we must to. The easiest way to avoid any ill affects is to, like any other investment, diversify.
Yes, people are blocking cookies more and more often, but people are buying and shopping for things online more than ever before, all which are things that require cookies to be used. I would think it would be more of a hassle to enable your cookies every time you decide to buy things online. But people out there will surprise you. _________________ Robert

What, tell an anonymous person who doesn't even know my name how much I earn?
Sorry, no.
If I did that, some other - probably anonymous - person would demand that I prove it. Then someone else would ask for a breakdown of which sites were earning how much, etc, etc.
Already every site I've made public faces competition from copycat sites and similar sites. I enjoy helping people, but there is a limit to how far I'll go.

Probably not a good idea. I saw some stats this week that said the latest average click-through rate on banners is only 4 in 1,000.
It would be better to think about ways to write personal endorsements of products you love. That works.

Could you give us a list of all the different versions of AG you've ever encountered? I sometimes think there's a whole content site in there. I just need the keyword list.
Interestingly, last time I checked Ken Evoy was better known under another name too. Yes, really. Neil Shearing is another who has multiple "popular identities".
I'm not talking about pseudonyms, I mean other people's mistakes.
Taking a wild guess, I'd say that people generally respond better when you take the trouble to get their name right. Is it that hard?
Just a thought,

Hey Allen,
Heh.... a corner eh? So you wouldn't mind pushing a couple crumbs off
that corner first our way, would you?
To be honest, it's almost scary if you think about it... exciting, but
scary! (in a good way of course! ) |

Sure, no problem. For instructions on how to pick up that money, just read the articles and archived newsletters on my site.

Hi Allen,
Sorry bout that, I keep having to log in sporadically for some reason. That
last post is from me.

I don't make much money on any of my sites, but since I own 65 websites now, all I need is a hundred or two per site and I'm set. _________________ http://www.smallbusinessforum.com

I like the idea of the crumbs or even chunks, but I'm getting a bit confused...
Is that Allan's site or Allen's?
It's like watching two parallel universes from somewhere else.
Cheers,
Charlie.
P.S. Maybe things will improve once a few people have heard of you, "Allan". _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
