My site has been spidered by google a couple of times in January.

After some hard legwork registering with smaller satellite directories, posting in forums, and a bit of PPC activity, I've now got 35 incoming somethings (see below)

searching on my domainwww.smallbusinessfinancetips.com, I get my meta name and description, but when I click on "links" I get a google generated search of:

link:1mwOxgVPI0UJ:www.smallbusinessfinancetips.com/ - and no links,

whereas when I click on documents that contain the term 'my web address' I get 35 or so. Can anyone please explain the meaning of the strange "1mwOxg.." etc and why there are no in-pointing links when there definitely are?

Help much appreciated, thanks in advance

Neil, I don't know where "1mwOxgVPI0UJ" is coming from for you.

However, I used the advanced search feature at Google with just your domain name and it also reported no backlinks.

I also did the search for pages that contained your domain in the page, and came back with 35, but only 12 unique ones, not including your domain.

You may want to check out those 12 and see if they are linking straight to you via <a href> tags and not other means like cgi, span tags, etc.

Thanks, I will do this, but first, how do I determine what kind of link it is?
And why do some 'not count' even though you can click on them in the real world.

regards

I think Google only shows pages with PR3 (or maybe 4) and higher as backlinks. So you might have a bunch of backlinks from pages with low Page Rank, and that's why they don't show up.

The PR of the page the link is on is definitely a factor to consider. But if the page has a high enough PR, and it still doesn't show, then view the source code for javascript link, span tags instead of <a href> ... they look and act just like clickable links but aren't read by the SE's as clickable links.

Some cgi links can also cause problems with SE's reading them properly but I don't know enough about this to tell you what is and isn't a good cgi link.

Keep in mind, if the link is a standard <a href>, and the page PR isn't high enough, the link is counting in your PR, it just doesn't get listed until the page reaches a high enough PR.

Google only shows somebacklinks, if you want to see all your backlinks I'd suggest alltheweb at www.alltheweb.com

At the moment Google appears broken. I wouldn't put too much faith in anything it says until they sort out the damage from hurricane Austin.

The only links I can find for that site are coming from various places who use Kanoodle's search results.

PPC listings don't send PR because they use a tracking URL. For a link to count, it needs to use a direct URL (http://www.yourdomain.com) or the script needs to use a 301 redirect. I think Kanoodle uses a 302.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments everyone

Whatever the status of the links in Googles eyes, I've trawled through my referrer stats, and am definitely getting hits from most of my links on a daily basis! (Obviously some give me more than others)
