After years of online research, Trail & Error The sure shot ways to sell online are:
1) Opt-in-List - Most of the people online use internet only for emails(this I came to know after working for a major ISP) they buy online using email i.e opting in to their interested topic newsletters or promotions. Try to build opt in list with offers.
2) Online shopping sites - Well simplest way to sell stuff is place them in a store, people come to stores to buy same applies online, ex: if you are selling ebooks place them in ebooks section of online stores like ebay and it WILL BE SOLD.
3) Search engine ppc - Imagine selling Ice Cream in Ice Cream parlor people come there searching for ice creams -get it- suppose you are selling pets stuff and place the ads in keyword "pets" you will have good conversion rate. _________________ - Denny the affiliate guy !
I'm sorry to contradict, but really nothing of these is sure shot.
1. can work, IF you give value and can build a good relationship with your list, so there's where the money is, in the relationship.
2. can work, IF you can get enough visitors, and people want what you have to offer. Too many people have shops but nobody comes...
3. you will not automatically have a good conversion rate, only because you sell what your niche wants.

This takes a little bit of money. But you can create your own text ads describing your product, and have them run in search engines and when people click on them it brings them to your site. Yahoo Search Marketing and Google Ad Word accounts are a good method for doing this.
