FYI: You can get a debit card that works out of your PayPal account.
It will NOT overdraw funds from your checking account. The money HAS to be in the paypal account for the debit card to work.
But its an option. And, offtopic, but kinda interesting, if your a regular ebayer (seller and buyer) you can get cashback from using your PayPal debit card.
I use my debit card from PayPal to pay for my eBay fees... which gives me a small cash back bonus. not much, but its free money _________________ Eric D. Burdo

So, if your parents lived their lives without bathing, would you do the same? If you choose to conduct your business online without a credit card, you are setting yourself up for disaster, sooner or later. |

"Guest", Credit cards are one of those items that you can't make definites about. Sure, life is easier sometimes with a credit card. But there are a lot of people who would be better off if they never had a credit card.
The choice is hers. Don't pick on her because she is making a stand on something. Its her deciscion.
She may have some difficulties by not using a credit card. But she will avoid some because she chooses not to have one. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I agree absolutely, and I applaud Amanda's decision to conduct her business without using a c/c. It will be difficult certainly, but I doubt impossible.
Do I use the things? Yes, all the time. But whenever possible I make sure I pay them off before the interest kicks in.
All the best,

I applaud Amanda's determination to avoid falling into a debt trap, but not her decision to refuse to have anything to do with a credit card (and hamper her online business as a result). Surely, it's the carrier's self control that is the issue, not the ability to spend money...
Do you always carry a spare set of clothes, just in case you pass a big sign that says "jump in the lake"?
Just a thought,

The benefits of credit cards far outweight their drawbacks, if you use them properly. The only reason I see not to start using credit cards, is if you know you can't control your sepending and would get into debt.
Refusing to use credit cards just because they are considered "evil" (I'm assuming here that this is essentially a version of Amanda's reasoning) is like refusing to ride in cars because they are killing machines, or refusing to drink wine because it turns people into alcoholics.
Credit cards are the most suitable tool for Internet commerce. Not using them is like insisting on trading in gold coins while everybody else is moving to US Treasury bills. You are making things 10 times harder on yourself.
Regards,
Yaron |

| Well, I'm not going to get into a debate here about my reasons for not having a credit card, because it's pretty pointless. However, I have been reading about these Prepaid Mastercards available. So I might just go that route and get one of those, instead of getting an actual credit card. |

I don't blame you.
Pointless or otherwise, that's your choice. No need to justify choices or opinions generally, if you ask me. That's where debate gets unreasonably personal.

At least it should facilitate the mechanics of buying online. Just watch the consumer protection though.
Cheers,
