| Okay, I talked to someone about making money through a website. She recommended that I download and read Affiliate Masters Course. I started to read through it, and realized it was all just going straight over the top of my head. So basically I need advice on where to start. What I want is to create some sort of website where I can earn some money, so where do I begin? |

Amanda, as you already have read the Affiliate Masters Course, I recommend that you start checking where your interests are and what you know that others might possibly be interested in as well.
As the Affiliate masters Course states somewhere, it is best to write content about something you know. For starting up an internet business, when you don't have a clue how it works and what resources you need, don't think of it as an instant money making machine. It usually takes time and the so called Gurus also started small and mostly invested most of their time into their projects.
You may also refer to this thread, where we discussed a similar situation.
Good luck with starting your big adventures on the web
Btw, without a credit card it is difficult to get the basic things you need to start your project. Most ebooks are to be paid for with CC, some alos accept PayPal. For hosting, check out if any of the hosting providers accept payments per check/money order/paypal _________________ Explore The Most Up to Date Site About How to Succeed with Adwords! |

Oh, what I forgot to say:
Welcome to the forums!
Also important: use the seach feature (link is on top of each page) and also read a lot in the "General Affiliate Discussion" section of this forum.
A very valuable resoure is the newsletter archive, our host Allen Gardyne has put together over the last years. You can access them here . Tons of internet know-how in one place.
Also have a read of the Case Study of one of Allens Assistents building a profitable site without prior knowledge of Affiliate Programs.
You see, lots to read and digest.
When you have detailed questions, come back to these forums and ask or participate in the ongoing discussions.
Again, lots of luck. _________________ Explore The Most Up to Date Site About How to Succeed with Adwords! |

W/out a credit card, it is harder to get started... but not impossible.
You can get started w/out buying any books. It might take you a bit longer though... but maybe not. That depends on how fast you catch on, and how hard you work.
I would reread the Affiliate Masters Guide and find someone to help explain it to you. Does your friend do any affiliate sales? if so, talk to them...
You can also download the Action Guide from SiteSell... its about 600 pages. It is the guide that goes with SBI, but most of it you can apply to your a non-sbi site. You just have to use different tools.
This forum is a great free resource also. You can search around here and find lots of answers that other people have asked. And if you can't find an answer, then ask. Someone will help you out... just remember to be polite and be clear. The clearer (and more specific) your question, the better the answer! _________________ Eric D. Burdo

You'll want a credit card, for your web host if nothing else.
Before you spend money on a course, read through this and other sites. Many search engine listings on "making money online" are just mini sites encouraging you to buy a book, but there are nuggets of free information.
Best thing to do to get started though is (and might sound silly) to just start blindly WITHOUT paying any money. Get a free host and make a webpage about something that interests you.
Once you know a little, get it ASAP on a host with a domain name. Work for a month or so on making it a GOOD site and THEN work on sponsorship.
To start out with sponsorship, make it easy on yourself and just use ads the various networks are offering (fineclicks.com, webspsonsors.com, CJ.com, etc).
Then take to the next level. _________________ JP Sauve

Amanda, I wonder if you tried reading the Affiliate Masters Course on a computer screen?
If you did, I strongly recommend that you take ken's advice - print it out, find a comfortable spot where there aren't other distractions, and re-read it slowly. Take your time and think about the various tips Ken gives.
This could be the start of a whole new business for you, so it's well worth while putting a lot of thought into it.
Yes, there is much to learn. The trick is to take your time and break it into small, digestible bits. Flying to moon looked impossible once, but people did it by learning one little bit at a time.
Years ago, I wrote an introduction to affiliate programs:
http://www.AssociatePrograms.com/search/guide.shtml
It's probably a bit outdated now, but it will help give you an overview.
I also have a Help/FAQ page which answers many questions:
http://www.AssociatePrograms.com/search/faq.shtml
Beware of being sucked into schemes which promise you the earth for no work or almost no work. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Hope that helps. _________________ Allan Gardyne

| Thank you all for your advice. Allan, I did try to read the Affiliate Masters Course on my monitor, but I will print it out and read over the next few days to make sure I grasp the concept of it all. And thank you for those links, I will look into everything that has been suggested. As far as credit cards go, I do not have one by choice, my parents have lived without credit cards all their lives, and so will I. Again, thank you all for your suggestions, I will be doing a lot of reading over the next few days. I have a lot of patience and determination, and plan to take things one day at a time. |

Hello Amanda.

I love your one woman stand against the evils of consumer credit. Really, I do.
But you sound a bit like an ex-alcoholic...
If you are strong willed enough to resist the card at all, aren't you strong willed enough to use one selectively (and keep paying it off). You could always save up the real money first before buying anything with the card.
At the end of the day, credit cards are much like guns. They're more than useful in the right hands, but the opposite extreme doesn't bear thinking about.
By the sound of things, your "hands" seem a safe enough place for a credit card to me.
Hope you don't mind the lecture. You can always ignore it.
All the best,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Amanda,
I'm not sure if you're in the US, or what other countries do this....
Do you have a checking account? If so, do you have an ATM card?
If you do, you may be able to convert it into a "Debit" card. This is an ATM card that carries the Visa or Mastercard logo.
What this does is allow you to make purchases as if you had a credit card, but instead, the money comes directly out of your checking account.
This is what I do to purchase the info I want and need online, while still keeping my little self-proprietorship debt-free.
Hepe this helps!

The one important difference (at least here in the UK) is that credit cards offer a far greater level of consumer protection. The credit card company is jointly liable with the merchant if the consumer is not satisfied in some way.
When I received disgusting treatment from a hosting company in the US a while ago, I was able to get a full refund from my UK-based credit card company, even though the host refuted the claim.
I wouldn't have got my money back if I had used a debit card - certainly nowhere near as easily.
OK, this was an isolated example, but it's nice to know the support's there if you need it... especially with international purchases. You "foreigners" had better check the same rules apply in your country.
Hope this helps,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Same rules in the U.S. Charlie re: debit vs. credit cards. You have to fight for a refund with a debit card or check purchase. There are exceptions, of course, but that has to do with the banking institution you deal with, not consumer laws.
There are good reasons for credit cards, not least of which is consumer protection on purchases and disputes. Another reason to have and use credit cards wisely is to help build your credit rating faster than standard loans and mortgages.
Finally, my forte!

It might help also, Amanda, if you set up an account with PayPal. PayPal actually prefers your payments to come out of your checking account. I've used PayPal alot and like it. check it out: http://www.paypal.com (not an affiliate link ).
Hope this helps,
