Adwords Image Ads are Shown Only in Content network.
In My Experience Image Ads gets high CTR as Compared to text ads. If You Want advertise in Content network, Image ads are Good.

This is a good question and I'm really not sure. But one thing I do know is that in general text ads have beat image ads overall - because they blend in naturally and doesn't stick out as "ADvertising" to visitors. However, depending on your product some image ads may be beneficial for you. Only sure way is to test, compare and see!

Human brains have been programmed to avoid banner ads. This has been tested by many advertising experts and proven. Therefore text ads is the best option.
The positive side of the banner ads is the low cost. They are always cheaper than text ads.

Image ads get great click throughs, but the one drawback of using the Content Network is that your advertisements generally aren't nearly as targeted as Search Network advertisements, so if you decide to expirement with image ads using the Content Network (or using the Content Network in general), I would suggest created seperate adgroups for the Content Network, since you can generally get much cheaper clicks than with the Search Network.
