Any evidence of larger themed sites carrying more weight, or just sites well regarded by others?

Mainly because it's not working but also because spammers keep changing things. Google should go back to the old days and start banning sites again. |
I was surprised when you said recently that you hadn't seen a ban for months. I presumed they still were...
I agree. I think it's too much a matter of "spirit" for any robot to read between the lines. Flag up the site by all means, but at the end of the day let humans decide and act, whether their tip off comes from the house robot or a concerned citizen.
Also, how about penalties for people who wrongly accuse competitors to try and get them banned for commercial gain?
Just a thought,

Hi Charlie

Not sure if you get my newsletter but I discussed themes a bit last week. Looking at the new results, I can't really see that theming is any more or less important.
Barnes & Noble has moved up to the number 2 spot for books but Amazon (which isn't just a book site anymore) is still number 1. For "Sport", the non-sport sites have moved up. The BBC is now number 2 (a news site) and the Exploratorium (a science site) has gone from 6 to 4.
I have been told that GoogleGuy said recently that people should concentrate on creating larger authority sites rather than smaller highly themed sites. I haven't seen the post so I cant confirm that it's correct or what context it was in.
I take it to mean that having multiple domains to cover highly specific niches may not be the best way to go. That's not to say that you should have one site covering every topic in the world - just that a larger site may be better than smaller highly targeted sites.

They don't ask for any of your details on their spam report page but they could. They could also track your IP address and automatically ignore complaints.
Cheers

Are these results only available at this datacenter, or have they been rolled out to the rest of the centers? |

Hi Niall
They are still only available on that data center as far as I can tell. They do show up on www.google.com sometimes because Google uses all of it's data centers when queries are made.
I'd say that the results on 64... will show up all the time within a few days.
Cheers

Haven't noticed any penalty: Maybe I'm to new. Actually, my keywords and related phrases just rise; check out :
'Analysis phase' 2 of 6.180.000
'ref cursor' 9 of 91.700 (important issue)
'database ebooks' 9 of 337.000
'ref cursor in oracle' 1 of 15.400 (important issue)
and so on. It's been like that (climbing) since I got spidered, and these are important phrases to my audience.
and then, the most funny of all:
'why is database design important' 4 of 4.520.000
'why is database design critically important' 1 of 347.000
many times...
Am I missing something here? : I'm just so pleased, and traffic is flowing... _________________ DatabaseDesigner

Or maybe you're the exception that proves the rule.

More questions than answers, if you ask me.

As long as you are getting the desired response from the traffic that does arrive, I don't thinik you're missing much.
All the best,
