I am looking for a free software that I can use with XP to resize, enhance the color and remove unwanted background of jpg files. Any suggestions?

I believe if you type in google (Free Image Editor) or something similar to that name you will get a lot of shareware products that come up. If you need something on the short term. You can download a free trial of Adobe Photoshop CS3.

I've also heard people comment that IrfanView is a very good free image editor.

Irfanview is good, but it's pretty basic. I use it to crop, mostly. I don't know if it can remove backgrounds.

You probably want to go with that free trial of Adobe Photoshop CS3. Unless you have a lot of stuff to do over a long period of time. Who knows you might even like the software. Very Happy

There are other programs our there that are free such as GIMP that you could try. I would recommend trying out the 30 day trials of both Photoshop and Fireworks (both Adobe products) and see if you think they're worth paying for. If you're just gonna be using them for 1 job the trial should cover you, if longer the ease of use may convince you to pay a bit for it. If the $$ is a major issue look at Photoshop Elements it should cover the basics for you.

Good that someone has asked the question that I have been wanting to ask.

I have lots of header graphics .jpg format. I want to know what software is good for editing the texts (eg. "Your Website Name Goes Here" and "Your Slogan Goes Here") on the header Graphics.

Any suggestions?

I still don't see anything wrong with a free trial of Adobe products. Plus I think your windows paint may be able to make those changes on your header graphics as well. If not, go to www.download.com and search for graphic editor. Should be some free ones available there.

Actually downloading the trial version of photoshop is pretty. You have 30 days to create all the graphics that you need in the near future.

Thats exactly it. If you can plan ahead sometimes that 30 day trial can do all you need it to do. More often then not it won't but you'll at least get to know the programs you try and figure out which ones you like and which ones you don't.

Why don't you use Microsoft Paint program? It's already on your computer!

Also, if you have Microsoft Office, they also have a photo viewer/editer that can resize your picture and change colors (you can make it black & white)

I've got to agree with MLRob. I've been a Windows and a Linux buff for years now, and would recommend GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/windows/) over Paintshop, Microsoft Paint or anything else. It's always free and has as many features as Paintshop, and is under constant development. And no trial periods!

Anything you want to do with a photo, it'll probably do. There's also a load of people round the world who are raring to give help and advice on it. Which is just as well as the only downside is that it can be quite a steep learning curve to use.

Thanks
